  • 🚢 Update: The Central Commission for the Navigation of the Rhine (CCNR) has now officially approved plans for reduction in the stretches on the Rhine with specific risks. This resolution was approved during the plenary session on 5 December 2024 and will enter into force on 1 July 2025. ✅ With this new solution, the number of sectors with specific risks will be reduced to two: ⚓On the Upper Rhine: from km 335.66 (Wintersdorf road bridge) to km 425.00 (Mannheim) ⚓On the Middle Rhine: from km 498.00 (Mainz/Mainz-Kastel road bridge) to km 592.00 (Koblenz, mouth of the Moselle) 💡The new easing of regulations is explained by the fact that nowadays waterways are well marked. And the use of navigation tools– such as Inland ECDIS, superimposed radar images, etc. – means that navigating there is now more accessible. 📈 The CCNR aims to ease professional requirements where it is possible without compromising safety. This change will allow boatmasters easier access to Rhine navigation, which makes for more flexible working conditions. The adjustment is expected to improve flexibility in working conditions and support efforts to address the shortage of skilled personnel. 👇 The full press release from the CCNR can be viewed below. #IVReu #InlandNavigation #CCNR #Rhine #Rhinenavigation #Stretches #Requirements

    Secretary General at IVR (EU)

⚓ This week, I had the privilege of speaking at the The International Dry Bulk Terminals Group Conference in London, where I delivered a presentation titled: "Risk of Cargo Fumigation with Toxic Gasses - Cooperation with the Supply Chain". It was an engaging session, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to discuss such a critical topic in the dry bulk industry. Addressing the risks of cargo fumigation and the importance of seamless cooperation across the supply chain to mitigate these hazards is key to improving safety and efficiency. In addition to my presentation, I was honored to join an insightful panel discussion together with Blake Buckner and Andres Gomez Bueno. 🎉A big congratulations to the organizing team on celebrating 25 years of bringing industry leaders together! 🚢 Tomorrow, on Saturday, November 16, the Dutch tradition continues as 'Sinterklaas' arrives in the Netherlands. This year, the national arrival will take place in Vijfheerenlanden, marking the start of a magical season. 🎁 While Sinterklaas travels on his iconic steamship, it’s hard not to think about the vital role of the waterways in the European economy. His ‘𝗗𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗼𝗼𝘁’ was constructed in 1910. Using an inland vessel has been his preferred method of transport, proving that inland navigation is one of the most reliable and effective transportation modes for dry cargo and freight transport (including presents and candy). ⚓ We hope that this year bridges and locks will not be an obstacle in his safe arrival. #IVReu #inlandnavigation #destoomboot
