As an American who loves sports and competition, I really enjoy watching and reading about the Olympics. I also take pride in the fact that the United States is always at or near the top in medals won. As of August 8th, we've secured 95 medals, with the next closest country, China, at 67, and host country France with 51. U.S. dominance! But what does that look like when comparing countries by their population and medals won? The website Medals Per Capita does just that, offering a unique perspective on Olympic success. For the 2024 Summer Olympics, the ultimate winner per capita is the tiny Caribbean nation of Dominica. With a population of just 67,408, they won their first-ever Olympic medal (GOLD!) in track and field. On the other end of the spectrum is India, with a population of 1.4 billion and only three medals this Olympics, translating to one medal per 468 million people. The U.S.?
