One of the key events in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games is called the Parade of Nations. Why do athletes from Greece always march first in this parade? This is because the Olympics originated in Greece thousands of years ago, and the first modern Olympics took place here in 1896. The countries that will follow Greece is decided in alphabetical order, but the language is not always in English. The host nation’s national or official language is sometimes used. On the other hand, the host country is always the last in the parade. In this case, it will be France, marching as the 205th nation/team. The USA will be the 204th nation because it is the host of the next Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028. Australia will be the 203rd nation because they have been designated as the preferred host nation for the 2032 Olympics. #trivia #quiz #gk #knowledge #facts #dailytrivia #didyouknow #fact #factsdaily #instafacts #truefacts #science #factsoflife #doyouknow #sciencefacts #realfacts #allfacts #factoftheday #gk #sports #olympics #Paris2024 #india #sports #IndianSports #IndianAthletes #Cheer4India #TeamIndia #ParisOlympics #OlympicGamesParis

The Opening Ceremony for the Olympics 2024 is upon us and is set take place at sunset today July 26th at 7:30pm CEST (which is 6.30pm BST), and closes on Sunday, August 11th. Here are some key facts. The modern Olympic Games have their origins in ancient Greece, where the original Olympic Games were held in Olympia. 1. Ancient Olympic Games: The ancient Olympic Games were first recorded in 776 BCE in Olympia, Greece, and were held every four years in honor of Zeus. They continued for nearly 12 centuries until Emperor Theodosius I banned them in 393 CE. 2. Modern Olympic Games: The modern Olympics were revived in 1896 by Pierre de Coubertin, and the first modern Olympic Games were held in Athens, Greece, reflecting the historical origins of the event. 3. Olympic Flame: The tradition of the Olympic flame, which symbolizes the continuity between the ancient and modern games, originates in ancient Greece. The flame is lit in Olympia and then relayed to the host city. 4. Olympic Motto: The motto of the Olympic Games, "Citius, Altius, Fortius" (Faster, Higher, Stronger), reflects the spirit of competition and striving for excellence, a concept rooted in the values of the ancient Greek games. 5. Olympic Symbols: The Olympic rings, representing the five continents of the world (Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania), and the Olympic anthem, both have roots in the idea of global unity, which was a key aspect of the ancient games in bringing together competitors from different Greek city-states. These elements highlight the strong connection between the ancient Greek origins of the Olympics and their modern incarnation, hence the reason why Hellas leads the ceremony, at every Olympics event. The olympics were a source of reconciliation and paused all wars between Athenians and Spartans, in the name of peace, let’s hope the spirit of the games brings peace to every continent of the world. https://lnkd.in/evhE_sNr #Olympics #TeamHellas #Paris2024

As an American who loves sports and competition, I really enjoy watching and reading about the Olympics. I also take pride in the fact that the United States is always at or near the top in medals won. As of August 8th, we've secured 95 medals, with the next closest country, China, at 67, and host country France with 51. U.S. dominance! But what does that look like when comparing countries by their population and medals won? The website Medals Per Capita does just that, offering a unique perspective on Olympic success. For the 2024 Summer Olympics, the ultimate winner per capita is the tiny Caribbean nation of Dominica. With a population of just 67,408, they won their first-ever Olympic medal (GOLD!) in track and field. On the other end of the spectrum is India, with a population of 1.4 billion and only three medals this Olympics, translating to one medal per 468 million people. The U.S.? We rank 42nd with one medal per 3.6 million people. As Nelson Mandela once said, "Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does." OLYMPIC The modern Olympic Games (OG; or Olympics; French: Jeux olympiques, JO)[a][1] are the world's leading international sporting events. They feature summer and winter sports competitions in which thousands of athletes from around the world participate in a variety of competitions. The Olympic Games are considered the world's foremost sports competition, with more than 200 teams, representing sovereign states and territories, participating. By default, the Games generally substitute for any world championships during the year in which they take place (however, each class usually maintains its own records).[2] The Olympics are staged every four years. Since 1994, they have alternated between the Summer and Winter Olympics every two years during the four-year Olympiad.[3][4] Their creation was inspired by the ancient Olympic Games, held in Olympia, Greece from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD. Baron Pierre de Coubertin founded the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1894, leading to the first modern Games in Athens in #snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking
