Being a community partner means showing up for everyone in our community when it matters most. Pepco recently celebrated 12 years of partnering with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington to host our annual Thanksgiving Dinner and toiletry drive at the Pepco Edison Place Gallery. This tradition brings members of our community together to support those experiencing food insecurity and homelessness in the District of Columbia. This year, I’m proud to share that we were able to serve 300 meals, distribute 300 toiletry bags, and provide hats, coats, scarves and gloves to our guests.
My sincere appreciation goes out to the entire team of volunteers from both Catholic Charities and Pepco. While we are privileged to serve as the energy provider for our communities, it is our responsibility as a community partner to do all we can to uplift those around us and provide More Than Energy.
A special thank you to the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington president Jim Malloy for your continued leadership and partnership. Together, we are making a difference in the communities we serve. Let’s continue to support our neighbors and build a brighter future.
People like Paul, experiencing homelessness in this heat, found refuge at the Mission. Paul shared that the hardest part of experiencing homelessness this summer is “the heat. Period."
Learn 7 ways you can help your neighbors in need in this increasingly hotter weather.
1️⃣ DONATE BOTTLED WATER
We’ll have it in our building and also pass it out on the streets to keep people hydrated.
2️⃣ MAKE A FINANCIAL DONATION
Instead of handing out money to someone, consider donating to nonprofits who serve those experiencing homelessness.
3️⃣ DONATE NONPERISHABLE FOOD
Food is often in short supply at shelters during this time of year, so consider a donation of canned goods or other nonperishable food items.
4️⃣ GIVE TOILETRY ITEMS
Travel-sized toiletry items (alcohol-free!) and things like toothbrushes, toothpaste, disposable razors, soap, and lotion are always needed.
5️⃣ EMPOWER PEOPLE TO GET OUT OF THE HEAT
Extreme heat can be very dangerous, and a place to cool down is very important. Point them to Nashville Rescue Mission or other day services in the area.
6️⃣ VOLUNTEER
Give the gift of your time. Volunteer to serve meals to your community.
7️⃣ BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR
If you see someone in need, check on them. Offer a bottle of water or other resources. Learn how to distinguish if someone is experiencing a heat stroke, and if it’s an emergency, call 911.
Thank you for continuing to support the Mission through seasons of extreme cold and extreme heat. Our neighbors need our help! ❤️

The Prime Legacy of Global Powerhouse | Dan Murphy's | Gregory Anderson—The Empowering Influence of Empathy and Kindness in Corporate Social Responsibility: Inspiring Global Change for the Homeless
In a world where profit margins are often prioritized over compassion, an individual has emerged as a beacon of hope for the homeless population through an universal commitment to kindness and empathy. Dan Murphy, a visionary leader in the field of corporate social responsibility (CSR), has not only successfully raised funds to support the homeless but has also initiated a global movement of goodwill and social transformation.
The intersection of CSR, ethical leadership, and societal impact has never been more crucial than in today's increasingly interconnected world. Murphy's actions serve as a poignant reminder of the transformative power that businesses possess in shaping a more equitable and inclusive society. By extending a helping hand to those in need, he has not only alleviated the suffering of the homeless but has also sparked a ripple effect of generosity and compassion that transcends borders and cultures.
At the core of Dan Murphy's endeavors lies a deep-seated belief in the ethical foundation of CSR – a belief that businesses have a moral obligation to make positive contributions to society and uplift those who are marginalized and vulnerable. Through his strategic framework for ethical leadership, a new standard for corporate philanthropy has been established by Dan Murphy, one that prioritizes empathy, kindness, and authentic human connection above all else.
As we navigate the complexities of a rapidly changing world, Dan Murphy's example serves as a guiding light for both businesses and individuals. His actions remind us that true leadership is not solely measured by profits but by the impact we have on the lives of others and the legacy of compassion we leave behind.
In an era characterized by uncertainty and division, let us draw inspiration from Dan Murphy's remarkable journey and commit ourselves to creating a world where kindness and empathy are paramount. Together, we can forge a future where every individual – regardless of their circumstances – is treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.
Let’s unite and embark on a collective journey towards a more just, inclusive, and compassionate world – a world where the homeless are not forgotten but embraced with open hearts and outstretched hands.
Together, a difference can be made. Together, a brighter future for all can be created.
Join in the movement for change. Together, the world can be transformed, one act of kindness at a time.

💙 Dan Murphy's National GIVIT Day - Saturday 22 June 💙
Did you know that on any given night,122,494 people in Australia are facing homelessness?
If you’re heading to a Dan Murphy’s store this Saturday, we’d love your support to help us reach our goal of $250,000 to help the homeless this winter.
You’ll see our team members donning beanies, hosting BBQs or running raffles, all in the name of lifting the bar for our community.
As always Dan Murphy’s proudly kicks off every appeal with a $100,000 donation.
The wonderful people at GIVIT.org.au do amazing work every day, channelling generosity where it’s needed to support vulnerable people and communities.

Today is Giving Tuesday- If you’re looking for ways to contribute, I’d like to share two organizations that mean a great deal to me—both of which work tirelessly to address food insecurity and support individuals and families in vulnerable situations.
Saint Vincent de Paul https://ssvpusa.org/
Every day, teams of volunteers across the U.S. answer calls for help from neighbors in need. Whether it’s food, rent, utility bills, clothing, or other essentials, this organization steps in during critical moments to prevent hunger and homelessness.
I’ve had the privilege of being one of those volunteers, and it’s been a humbling experience to deliver food or help with rent for families who simply need a bit of assistance to make it to the next paycheck. These are people in our communities—our neighbors—who find themselves in difficult circumstances through no fault of their own.
Even a small donation can make a world of difference. Imagine skipping one dinner out to help a child have warm clothes or a family keep the lights on.
Mary’s Meals https://lnkd.in/gyj86h3v
MM feeds over 2.5 million children every school day, breaking the cycle of hunger and paving the way for education and opportunity. Just $25 can feed a child for an entire year.
Hunger makes it nearly impossible for children to focus, learn, or dream. By addressing this fundamental need, Mary’s Meals is transforming lives on a global scale.
I’ve seen firsthand how even the smallest contribution can change lives, so feel free to PM me and I'll share some insights.

⭐️This Giving Tuesday, Be the Difference Oakland Needs⭐️
Oakland’s housing crisis is pushing families of color out of their communities, leaving many without shelter. We’ve found the perfect opportunity to change that—a property ready to house families immediately at 2231 E 28th Street.
But there’s an urgent challenge: we have less than 60 days to raise $500,000, or we’ll lose this opportunity.
💛How You Can Help:
1. Donate today at www.just-homes.org. Every dollar brings us closer to our goal.
2. Start a Giving Tuesday fundraiser with your family and friends to amplify the impact.
3. Share this post to spread the word.
🎯Why It Matters: This isn’t just a property—it’s a safe haven for families to heal, rebuild, and thrive. The spacious rooms, private entrances, and beautiful backyard make it the ideal place to provide stability and dignity to those who need it most.
Time is running out. Let’s show what community power can do. Together, we can turn the tide and ensure no family is left behind.

On this #NationalDayOfServiceandRemembrance, let's honor the lives lost on 9/11 by embodying the spirit of unity and compassion that arose in its aftermath. Dedicating ourselves to serving our communities is a powerful way to pay tribute to those we lost and create a more positive future.
Here are some meaningful ways you can give back:
⏩Volunteer at a Local Food Bank: Help pack meals for those in need and ensure no one goes hungry.
⏩Participate in a Community Clean-Up: Join local efforts to beautify your neighborhood and create a welcoming environment for all.
⏩Donate Blood: Consider donating blood at a local blood drive to help save lives in your community.
⏩Support a Veteran Organization: Volunteer your time or donate to organizations that support veterans and their families.
⏩Perform Random Acts of Kindness: Whether it’s paying for someone’s coffee or writing a note of appreciation, small gestures can make a big impact.
Let's turn this day of remembrance into a day of action. Share your ideas for serving others in the comments below! #ServiceToOthers#HonorAndRemember #911 #NeverForget
Another powerful project created by CALM to display the shocking statistics we face year upon year of the ever growing number of deaths by suicide. This time focusing on those aged between 15 and 34. Each balloon represents a real person who took their own life during the last 10 years. The numbers on the balloons represents the age they would have been at their next birthday.
CALM are looking for ways to help people visualise the number, in order to start a national conversation about suicide that hopefully leads us to change. This follows Project 84, which my sisters and I took part in almost 6 years ago, where they placed 84 life size statues across the rooftops of ITV studios in Londons South Bank. Each statue represented a man that had taken his life that very year. Why 84? Because at the time, 84 men died by suicide every single week in the UK. This was 6 years ago. Since then, numbers have increased.
When are we going to wake up and realise as a nation this is becoming a national emergency?
Hats off to CALM for continuing the conversation with another shocking and thought provoking campaign.
Our Missed Birthdays installation is here to raise awareness of the devastating reality of youth suicide in the UK.
In the last decade, 6,929 young lives have been lost to suicide. Each balloon represents a young person who took their own life, and a birthday they didn’t get to celebrate.
📍 Westfield White City in London
🗓 September 9th - September 11th
If you’re nearby please visit the installation. You’ll also be able to hear from family and friends about the memories of the people they lost and their belief that we can all play a part in ending youth suicide.
A massive thanks to Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation who’ve joined us in the fight to end youth suicide and made this installation possible.
🌟 Community Support Update 🌟
In the past week, we've donated 15 mattresses to families impacted by the flooding in San Diego. 🛏 However, the need is still great, with 40+ families on the waitlist and more reaching out every day.

As I work to aid Charitable children institutions in transitioning towards family and community care, I often come across organizations dealing with children aging out of the care system. These children often lack independent living skills and encounter numerous obstacles, sometimes without supportive community networks. It's disheartening that they have to leave the system without the support and love of a family. Facilitating the search for suitable families for these children is crucial in ensuring their continued growth and well-being beyond institutional care.

🧡 Spreading Warmth, One Blanket at a Time 🧡
Fall is in the air! As temperatures drop, many of us take warmth and comfort for granted.
But for individuals experiencing homelessness, a blanket or sleeping bag can mean the difference between a night of suffering and a night of rest.
I’d like to shine a spotlight on an inspiring initiative by the Dorcas Heart non-profit.
This incredible organization provides essential blankets and sleeping bags to those in need, offering not only physical warmth but also a message of hope and compassion.
Here’s why this effort matters:
✨ Direct Impact: D.HEART works with community volunteers and partners to ensure donations reach those most in need.
✨ Dignity & Care: A blanket isn’t just a piece of fabric – it’s a simple yet powerful symbol of dignity and care.
✨ Community Involvement: Every contribution, whether a donation or volunteer effort, makes a tangible difference.
If you're looking to support a cause that creates an immediate impact, consider joining or donating.
The current goal is to provide 300 sleeping bags and 300 blankets, at a cost of $25 each, to those in need.
Let’s help them continue their mission to bring warmth to those who need it most.
Together, we can make a meaningful difference in our communities this winter!

We are proud to announce that our CEO, Christofer Catania, is again supporting the Vinnies CEO Sleepout. Taking place on the 20th of June this initiative raises awareness and funds for individuals experiencing homelessness. This year marks Chris’ fifth participation, highlighting his ongoing commitment to positively impacting our community.
The Vinnies CEO Sleepout is more than just a fundraising event; it’s a powerful experience that allows business leaders to understand the hardships faced by those without a place to call home. By spending a night sleeping rough, participants like Chris gain firsthand insight into the daily struggles of the homeless, fostering greater empathy and a stronger resolve to drive change.
Chris’ participation is a testament to his dedication to social responsibility and reflects the core values of MEC. At MEC, we believe in making a difference not just within the corporate world, but also within our communities. Chris’ example inspires our entire team to engage in philanthropic endeavours and support initiatives that create meaningful, positive impacts.
