Some really good stuff in this report much of which chimes with our own Making Skills Work conclusions. Like the reference to education and skills as related but different, pragmatic reflection on three way funding sources State, employer and learner plus the acceptance that the UK economy is best served by an inclusive and fair UK wide solution. Would have liked to see a bit more about how the provider ecosystem could be reshaped to work together in the most effective way for the needs of learners, employers and regions. Everyone has a role to play and that certainty means we can balance funding accordingly

Meeting of Federal, State, and Territory Skills Ministers Recently in Sydney, Skills and Training Ministers from across Australia came together to discuss key initiatives to shape Australias workforce's future. National Skills Plan: A roadmap under the National Skills Agreement to guide skills investment and address critical workforce shortages. This plan will drive economic and social benefits through the VET system. Quality Reforms: Significant progress on revised Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) to enhance quality and integrity in the VET sector, set to take full effect from July 2025. Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA): Professor Barney Glover AO presented JSA's 2024-25 Work Plan, highlighting regional intelligence and aligning skills with migration needs. Fee-Free TAFE and Centres of Excellence: Updates on Fee-Free TAFE, which supported 355,000 Australians in 2023, and the launch of the first TAFE Centre of Excellence in ACT focused on electric vehicles. VET Workforce Blueprint: A plan to support and grow a sustainable, inclusive VET workforce, crucial for navigating future challenges and opportunities. These discussions intended to reaffirm a commitment to building a strong, dynamic VET sector that meets the evolving needs of students, industry, and our economy.
