Sydney last night paid homage to three leaders that have played an important role in the resurgence of our wonderful city since COVID. Business Sydney last night acknowledged and thanked Steve Cox former Chief Executive Officer of Destination NSW, Philip Holliday the Chief Executive Officer of Port Authority of New South Wales and David Chandler OAM former NSW Building Commissioner. All three leaders served Sydney and NSW with distinction, respect, enthusiasm, passion and commitment to advance Sydney as a global, competitive and liveable city. Steve, Phil and David received the Business Sydney Champion Award for their respective contributions for delivering outcomes that have created opportunities to invest, work, live and visit our city. #sydney #sydneychampion #contributions #outcomes #globalcity #commitment #livablecity #leaders #welovesydney

At Businesses Sydney we like to see businesses doing well. Lune Croissanterie outside the Metro station at Martin Place must be good because the line outside is this L..O..N..G! And it’s only 9.30am. Paul Nicolaou Nerida Pearson Jason Tattershall Sherman Chan Peter May Angelique Opie David Jones

Sydney, we have been thinking lately about the importance of Sydney’s working harbour and the need to retain commercial operations at Glebe Island and at White Bay by organisations that include among them well respected Business Sydney members. These valuable commercial activities include the cruise industry and the operators that support it including towage company Engage Marine with its harbour-based fleet of tugs. Yesterday bright & early, David Jones, Angelique Opie from 7NEWS Australia and I had the pleasure of joining Engage Marine’s port captain Dom McCarron and his crew as they escorted the beautiful cruise ship Pacific Adventure safely to her berth at the White Bay Cruise Terminal. The cruise industry is so important to our wonderful city. A large portion of the $4.4 billion in economic activity it generates in NSW annually happens right here in Sydney. We think it’s possible to increase this activity still further with a target of $5 billion in economic activity annually by 2030. In the meantime, best wishes to all the Sydneysiders packing their bags ready to enjoy a magnificent Christmas cruise from our harbour city. #sydney #glebeislsnd #whitebay #workingharbour #cruiseindustry #tugboats #sydneyharbour #welovesydney

A great opinion piece by Business Sydney’s Paul Nicolaou Please have a read below. Thank you Paul and Business Sydney for your ongoing support.
A great opinion piece by Business Sydney’s wonderful Paul Nicolaou in yesterday’s The Daily Telegraph paper. Paul acknowledges and celebrates Taxi Drivers in NSW as “Our Knights of the Road” for the great work and dedication they provide to members of the community. Paul makes a great point referencing the recent Ministerial Announcement on the new “2 Strikes Rule”. Whilst we certainly welcome the new rule, which was initially called by the NSW Taxi Council, we do need to focus and emphasise more on the positives and celebrate the good wins we collectively achieve. Please take a moment to have a read. Thank you Paul and Business Sydney for your ongoing support. Nick Abrahim Jo Haylen Jack Begbie David Jones

PRIDE IN OUR EMERGENCY SERVICES Sydney, how good are our emergency services? They all responded with fantastic efficiency to an emergency call in Pitt Street in the city this morning — a building smartly evacuated. And a full on response that sends a great message that our emergency services are ready to swing into action comprehensively and professionally when the call comes. How lucky are we Sydney? I keep saying we have won the golden ticket living in our wonderful city. Sydneysiders love their ferries and why wouldn’t they on such a magnificent day as we are experiencing today. For just the cost of an Opal fare, you can get million dollar views of the Opera House, Harbour Bridge and the harbour itself. And our ferries are a huge asset for our international visitors many of whom arrive in our city by cruise ship. As the holiday season fast approaches, you’re looking for a great day out, think about a ferry ride. Our ferries help make Sydney special to visit our icons including the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, Luna Park Sydney, Taronga Zoo, Sydney Opera House, Manly, Balmain, Barangaroo and the CBD itself. #sydney #sydneyharbour #mca #sydneyoperahouse #lunapark #greatdayout #summerseason #welovesydney

The taxi review initiated by Nick Abrahim and the NSW Taxi Council supported by Business Sydney is already producing beneficial changes for the travelling public. One of the changes — an additional taxi rank outside the State Theatre in Market Street from 6pm to 6am — is already operational. And that’s a great boost for such a busy part of the CBD where previously only a tiny three-cab rank was available. It’s good to see this and other changes are being made as we head into the festive season. It’s important that point-to-point transport operations are as efficient as possible in our city as they provide such a valuable service. NO ONE CAN RAIN ON SYDNEY’S BLACK FRIDAY PARADE Ok, so Sydneysiders were never going to let a Friday evening downpour soak them out of their Black Friday shopping. There were bargains to be had, great purchases to be made and the fun of being in a city that is pumping. Our Executive Director Paul Nicolaou was out and about to complete a reconnoitre of the CBD. His verdict? “It’s pumping. Retail, pubs and bars are busy despite the rain. Great news for our city!” Black Friday is a retail phenomenon. We might have borrowed the concept from the US but we’ve made it our own with a distinctly Sydney and Aussie flavour. There is no doubt about its value to our city’s economy. The week leading up to Black Friday is the busiest for the year. And December is the busiest month as we get set for Christmas. It’s great that Sydneysiders have defied the rain and have come into the city. We are feeling sorry for the stall holders at the Martin Place Christmas market. The torrential rail wasn’t kind to them this evening. Let’s hope for better days for them.
