💼Neurodiversity in the workplace: Why it matters Does your definition of workplace diversity include disability? And does it go beyond physical disabilities to also include neurodiversity? The answer for most organisations is likely “no.” Studies estimate that the unemployment rate for neurodiverse adults runs as high as 30-40%. Why does it make sense for organisations to embrace neurodiversity in the workplace? 👉https://lnkd.in/gxG52qB9 #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek #NeurodiversityWeek #NCW #ThisIsND

We’re committed to workplace diversity and fostering an inclusive environment where all our people, our stakeholders and our communities are treated with fairness and respect. So, in celebration of International Day of People with Disability, Commissioner Kate O’Rourke hosted a discussion with guest speakers from the Australian Bureau of Statistics on neurodiversity in the workplace. Disclosing a disability in the workplace is a very private and personal matter. It requires a lot of trust, top notch HR representatives, and bravery on the part of the employee. It can be very hard to self identify and the reality is that oftentimes, it isn't worth it in the long run for the employee. Inclusion and acceptance should not be so hard in 2024. Just a soft reminder that disability doesn't discriminate. Any able bodied person can become disabled at any time. Inclusion in the workplace affects everyone. https://lnkd.in/eVqNmMWi

Many of us hide aspects of ourselves for fear of being judged. Whether it's a mental health condition, chronic illness, or neurodiversity, the fear of not being accepted can be paralyzing. But guess what? You are not alone. Countless individuals navigate this same journey. Embracing inclusion means recognising and celebrating the diverse experiences and abilities that each person brings to the table. It's about creating environments where everyone feels valued and respected, regardless of their differences. So, to all my fellow warriors facing invisible disabilities: You are seen. You are heard. And you are valued. Your unique perspective enriches our communities and workplaces in ways we can't even begin to imagine. Together, let's continue to champion inclusivity and break down barriers. It's time to create a world where everyone feels empowered to shine. #InclusiveCulture #EmbraceDifferences #BreakTheStigma #InvisibleDisabilitiesAwareness
Just because your office is wheelchair accessible doesn’t mean it’s inclusive. In fact, some of your colleagues could be living with a disability… and you don’t even know it. Approximately 33 million adults in the U.S. have an invisible disability. That includes autism, diabetes, chronic pain and mental illnesses. But nearly half of employees with such conditions haven’t told their employers, according to SHRM research. It’s on us to create inclusive work environments and a safe space for ALL. #NationalAutismAcceptanceMonth #HR #Workplace #Diversity #Inclusion #SupportInclusion
