Powering Australia is delighted to advise that our CEO Shannon O'Rourke has been appointed to the Industry Advisory Board of the newly formed Clean Energy Skills National Centre of Excellence (CESNCE). Shannon joins representatives drawn from First Nations, industry, unions, government TAFE and University sectors to offer advice to Government about the clean energy workforce. The CESNCE is jointly funded by the State and Federal Governments for $70 million over a period of five years and is tasked with building the capability of TAFE and other training institutions to build the workforce that will be needed as part of the clean energy transition. Shannon’s appointment aligns with Powering Australia’s specific focus on building workforce capability across our remit of clean-tech manufacturing for batteries, solar, wind, transport, transmission and distribution and industrial decarbonisation. He expressed his thanks to the Hon Simone McGurk and the Roger Cook Government, and through this latest appointment together with his role on the WA State Training Board, he looks forward to bringing extensive industry insights to this critical task. In February this year, the Government confirmed Phase 4 of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme would be delivered, equating to a funding pot of £1.17 billion for public sector decarbonisation projects. We’re awaiting more details about the latest phase, which are expected in “Summer 2024” but we may see changes based on the feedback from previous phases, such as more targeted funding allocations. ThermaMech has worked on a number of PSDS funded projects, including our work with Bristol City Council alongside Vattenfall Business Solutions UK. On this project we contributed to the decarbonisation of no less than 12 buildings, delivered on time, on budget, with no unplanned loss of service for customers, and using a local labour force and supply chain. We work UK wide, and understand the unique constraints of projects like the above. If you need support with a PSDS funded project, we’re the skilled and experienced partner you need. 𝐆𝐁 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲...𝐨𝐧 𝐚 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥 It was great to spend time with Chair of Great British Energy Juergen Maier CBE FRS FREng this morning, hearing first hand his perspectives on GBE’s scope, ambition and challenges. I was able to share details about the Chamber, our work on behalf of members and role in the regional economic partnership. And to reinforce that the globally unique energy eco-system in the North-east of Scotland is already progressing the transition agenda and stands ready to support GBE in turbocharging our future energy ambitions. Of course, I caveated this by discussing the potential ‘gap’ that was being caused by current oil & gas fiscal policy and rhetoric that risks seeing the capital, people, supply chain businesses and equipment needed to accelerate clean energy projects in the North Sea being lost overseas or perhaps altogether. We discussed our submission to the Great British Energy Bill Call for Written Evidence and the work being led by British Chambers of Commerce on securing the long-term future for North Sea energy production. I reiterated that the AGCC team is here to support GBE in any way we can. From convening the supply chain to communicating key messages through our media channels. From sector research to providing collateral to attract staff to relocate here. And from playing a role in inward investment activity to advising on future office accommodation. On the latter point, I was delighted to hear Juergen confirm his commitment to support our efforts to reenergise and repopulate Aberdeen city centre by locating the GBE HQ there. All done over a cup of coffee and butteries. Energy transition, on a roll, powered by Aberdeen. Europe’s clean energy capital. Businesses across the #Humber welcomed the Great Northern Conference to Hull earlier in the week, where we heard from Humber Energy Board Members on the vital role the ‘energy estuary’ has to play in making Britain a clean energy super power. We heard from... 👇 🌍 Juergen Maier CBE FRS FREng, Chair of GB Energy who emphasised that reindustrialisation for places like the Humber will be driven by clean energy. 🤝 Humber Energy Board members and partners, Drax Group, CBI (Confederation of British Industry) and Equinor, who set out the vital role the ‘energy estuary’ has to play in making Britain a clean energy super power. 💬 The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rt Hon Rachel Reeves MP, who reiterated her commitments to driving growth across the UK, and on how devolution can support innovation and entrepreneurship in places like the Humber. Businesses across the region stand ready to make the Humber the destination for #netzero investment. Through working in partnership with government, we have a clear plan to invest £15bn to unlock the opportunities in the region, deepening supply chains, creating tens of thousands of jobs, and driving growth and productivity across the UK. ⚡

Endorsed by the European Commission, GSHPs are emerging as a key solution for decarbonising heating systems in Europe. Being up to five times more efficient than gas, GSHPs offer a low-carbon, cost-effective alternative for heating and cooling buildings. We believe GSHPs should play a crucial role in helping the UK meet its climate targets too. In our latest blog - ‘The Power and Promise of Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHPs): The Leading Green Technology to Decarbonise the UK’s Heating’, we take a look into the state of play for Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) adoption in the UK, focusing on new builds and commercial developments. We also explore the main trends shaping their future. Australia’s leading energy industry and investment players are urging the Federal Government to stay on course and deliver the landmark #FutureMadeinAustralia Act. Clean Energy Investor Group is a part of the unified front supporting the Act, and with less than three weeks to go until the 2024 Federal Budget, is proud to be calling for the Government to step up and provide the necessary support to underpin private investor and business confidence in Australia’s transition to renewable energy. According to CEIG Policy Director Marilyne Crestias, “CEIG welcomes the Prime Minister’s vision for a ‘Future Made in Australia’”. “Australia needs ambitious policy direction like this to reduce transition risks as the Australian economy and the world decarbonises. The Future Made in Australia Act has the potential to unlock significant domestic and international capital including through the national superannuation system.” We are collectively calling on the Federal Government to deliver on the #FutureMadeinAustrlia Act to accelerate and coordinate decision-making and de-risk clean energy proposal developments.
