Demonstrating Scotland's innovative strength, Edinburgh Innovations, The University of Edinburgh’s commercialisation arm, has announced record-breaking annual results, highlighted by the launch of 127 new companies 🚀📈 This achievement comes in a year when the university was ranked joint first globally for industry, innovation and infrastructure in The Times higher impact rankings. Adding to the success, biotech pioneer MiAlgae—originally a student start-up producing Omega-3 from whisky by-products—was named a finalist in the prestigious Earthshot Prize for its planet-saving innovation. With a strong history of successful therapeutics and life sciences spinouts, alongside emerging technologies in areas such as cell and gene therapy, engineering biology, and semiconductors, the university has proven that the creation of spinout companies is a powerful driver of growth, global competitiveness and secures Scotland’s position as a leader in innovation. “What we need now is to turn up the dial,” says Andrea Taylor, Chief Executive of Edinburgh Innovations. She emphasises the urgent need for investors to fully engage with Scotland to ensure it plays a pivotal role in strengthening the UK tech sector to compete with the US and China. Scotland’s position as a green employment hub has been reaffirmed as new data shows once again that it has the highest proportion of green jobs advertised at 5.6%, higher than the UK average of 3.3%, and triple the number advertised since 2021 💪🏻 The report from PwC UK also showed that the ripple effect on the wider jobs market in Scotland is also increasing. The ‘green jobs multiplier’ rose to 2.8 in 2024, meaning for every ten green jobs created, an additional twenty-eight are created elsewhere in the economy. The figures reflect the growing optimism in the sector as well as growth in projects, including the Chapelcross hydrogen hub and ETZ EnergyWorks ⚡ #EnergyTransition

Can't believe it's been a month since Scotland's Manufacturing & Supply Chain Conference & Exhibition in Glasgow. It was a great couple of days, talking to businesses and highlighting the importance of making those crucial capital investments to drive productivity growth. One theme, in particular, that we focussed on during the event was investment in automation and robotics. With lots of support available for ambitious companies, it was inspiring to hear Gavin Holms share how R-Biopharm Rhône Ltd. leveraged this support to introduce cobots into their manufacturing process. The rewards speak for themselves: ✅ Productivity doubled ✅ Capacity increased to meet customer demand ✅ significant cost savings have been made ✅ many more... Explaining more about how we want to support ambitious businesses to invest in technology, we caught up with our Head of the Scottish Manufacturing Advisory Service, Nick Shields, during the event 🎥 If you think we could help your manufacturing business, visit our website to find out more and get in touch with our team via the enquiry form ➡️ https://ow.ly/7JnR50U1oyk #CapitalInvestment #Technology
