When I started my career in recruitment, I was hired for 2 skills apparently. Tenacity and Resilience. You can have great communication, work ethic and natural sales skills - but without this natural determination against all odds, the chances of you lasting long enough to carve out a successful career in something as relentless as recruitment dial down to near zero. So when I spoke to one of my clients today about doubling out their sales team - I knew exactly what I should be looking for. But I also value a third skill. Decency. I survived in recruitment due to my ability to overcome the odds and my ability to change gears depending on the challenge. But I built my reputation and my business on my ability to hold myself accountable to a higher standard of "sales". I have a drive to add value to my clients at every step and I genuinely feel that this is the key to building not just a sales function but a customer centric sales function. So here we are. I need three decent people, who want to not only developer their sales ability, but who want to come out of each transaction feeling like they have added value to the process and created value as a result. Hybrid from Edinburgh including 5 days a week office based for the first month to allow you to learn the business, the product, the process and embed yourself with the new team. Then moving to circa 2/3 days office based. Uncapped commission so this is your opportunity to make decent money for doing a decent job. Working with a scaling startup who are already doubling the size of both their sales and customer success teams so opening up future career paths and advancement as they continue to build. 100+ applicants is not a good thing. I've just seen a country manager role, German speaking, SaaS industry XP, onsite in Munich and a need for someone with series A - B experience get 100+ applicants. It was posted 1 hour ago. Not a huge issue if you have someone dedicated to talent management within your company but for those who don't have time to run a start-up PLUS scan through 100+ applicants, get hold of anyone relevant, organise calls, reject, organise 2nd stages, manage the process, replace the finalist who took another offer, and then realise there isn't another good applicant because it took 5 weeks to do the above... I recently completed a hiring process for a sales role in Edinburgh. It was the first exclusive sales role I had worked for one of my tech partners. I submitted 2 candidates within a week. Both were invited for interview. 1 got the job. 1 was a no-show and ghosted us. So it was 100% success from cv to interview and 50% success from interview to placement. Not bad for a first pass - but to me its a 50% fail and my goal is now to filter down the process to make sure that the next hiring process is a 100% success rate. Recruiting for tech sales is different from hiring for developers so there are different aspects to refine. I'll also take some of the learnings through to my software hiring as well as there are always learns to be had. But so far I have reduced my clients interview process from a 3 stage interview to a 1 stage. And brought their success rate to 2/1 from CV to placement. Not a bad start!
