Well, I think I've managed to squeeze one NetWorkx event #NetworkX into one afternoon, with an interview on the menu, an analyst meeting with Inderpreet K. where we talked about #opensource #cloudnative and #networkfunction, and a quick chat with Anita Döhler from NGMN Alliance about our favorite topic of discussion on next steps after the cloud native manifesto, followed by participation in two very dense panels on my favourite subjects around #TelcoToTechco transformation and cloud native telco, some great exchanges with my peers Michal Sewera Andrea Calvi Terje Jensen Yoshihiro Nakajima moderated by Hui Deng and Inderpreet K.. I dropped a photo where I had the pleasure of interviewing my fellow pair Otilia Anton, leading Network API at Orange on one of the key themes of this #NetworkX on the #Network #API, a moment to understand how these echo the event, but also to go back over the announcement of 12 September on the Joint Venture to boost the subject, or understand what are the main use cases and for which APIs of the CAMARA Project. The day ended with a convivial get-together organised by the GitLab teams, where we exchanged views with our peers on the challenges of our transformation in terms of automation. Thank you Yannick Muller Susana de Jong Marco Caronna James M.. I'd like to end with a kind word to all those who waited for me and for whom the exchange was too brief! "Tales of #apachekafka at the content delivery network #cloudflare: Lessons Learnt on the Way to 1 Trillion Messages" => Here is the summary of a great article about lessons learned and best practices: - #kafka clusters are used at Cloudflare to process large amounts of data, with a general-purpose message bus cluster developed to decouple teams, scale effectively, and process trillions of messages. - To address the issue of unstructured communication for event-driven systems, a strong contract should be in place: cross-platform data format #protobuf helped Cloudflare achieve that. - Investing in metrics on development tooling is critical to allow problems to be easily surfaced: Cloudflare enriched the SDK with #OpenTracing and #Prometheus metrics to understand how the system behaves and make better decisions, especially during incidents. - To enable consistency in the adoption and use of SDKs and promote best practices, it is important to prioritize clear documentation on patterns. - Cloudflare aims to achieve a balance between flexibility and simplicity: while a configurable setup may offer more flexibility, a simpler one allows standardization across different pipelines. Thank you Annie Turner for this summary of our final conversation for the opening keynote of the 2024 Mobile Europe #Telco to #Techco conference, which took place a few weeks ago. It was a dense fireside chat, with you jumping into a lot of topics where #tech could open opportunity doors, incrementally or in rupture. For me, it's particularly the case for telco #API topic, which is leveraging the value of the #network for differentiating services, which can happen mainly when you #own the network. Industry efforts over the past two years have focused on CAMARA Project, an open source project at The Linux Foundation, to define new network APIs that can both #retrieve information from the network and #configure the network. The initial focus of CAMARA, supported by the Open Gateway GSMA initiative, was on APIs that leverage mobile connectivity. However, from a paradigm perspective, we expect this approach to evolve towards both #fixed and #mobile to fully support the promise of programmable networks. As a first step, there are a few fixed APIs such as home device QoD or CPE, but it is true that the majority of APIs are for mobile, probably related to the fact that the effort is mainly done in the GSMA. Orange supports a coherent approach at the #standardisation level to address the end-to-end capabilities of connectivity - both fixed and mobile. We also believe that enterprise contributions to the open source project will help #prioritise the APIs that have the most #impact for the #developer communities. We have demonstrated in the last months, including for MWC, implementations based on SIM swap, number verification, quality on demand, device location, geofencing, mainly in cases where security, and in particular fraud prevention, is a priority. In terms of #outdoor and #indoor service coverage, we believe that we need adaptable connectivity that should take into account mobility scenarios. In the case of network APIs, for example, we need to ensure that a Quality on Demand subscription can be applied to mobility scenarios from mobile to Wi-Fi and fixed. Annie, I've already booked my slot for 2025, since it looks like a recurring appointment for both of us. I help companies to become API-first, speeding up time to market, creating new business opportunities, and delivering superior products and services | API Consultant, Integration Lead, Principal Architect
According to #Google’s 2023 State of APIs and Applications report, organizations use an average of 200 APIs. Managing over 200 APIs is challenging, and their rapid adoption and versatility will make it increasingly difficult in the future. One of the biggest challenges of API sprawl is discovering the necessary APIs and avoiding duplication. Another significant risk of API sprawl is having APIs that bypass your security and governance policies. #Apigee API Hub offers a solution. As one of Google's newest innovations, the API Hub allows organizations to view all their API assets and lifecycle information in one place. With the API Hub, you can: • Organize all your API information from multiple gateways, providers, and tools. • Standardize and maximize security, enhancing value without burdening your teams. • Reduce redundant builds and perform value-added actions on APIs. Over the past 11 years, I have helped many organizations define and implement their API governance models to direct and control the use of their APIs. I've seen the competing challenges of reducing risk while enabling speed and the difficulties of enforcing standards across different API architectures, gateways and teams without overburdening them or slowing them down. If you face similar challenges, the API Hub might be for you. The API Hub is coming soon for a public preview, and this next phase of the Apigee API Hub is just around the corner. I’ll keep you posted. If you have any questions, drop them in the comments, and I will respond promptly.
