Red Hat is enriching release after release the amount of security features supported by its OpenShift Container Platform to provide customers a lot of flexibility to design the best suited architecture to mitigate their assessed risk. Also Red Hat continued to invest massively in its Product Security (vulnerability management, incident response, secure software development,...) and launched a Trusted Software Supply Chain (aka TSSC) offering based on upstream projects like SigStore (https://www.sigstore.dev/) or Entreprise Contract (https://lnkd.in/eGbarMuW). So it is great to see that another major sovereign cloud actor decided to power its sovereign cloud offering with OpenShift ! Another reason #euro2024 should be a fun watch – 5G will be involved! Broadcaster RTL Deutschland and Deutsche Telekom are working together to use 5G services via a private 5G network to deliver “data-intensive applications” with the network running in the 3.7GHz to 3.8GHz range and offering up to 100MHz of bandwidth to the broadcaster. A very interesting article on #6G perspectives. Unsurprisingly, Telcos want it as a "software upgrade". That would also make rollout much faster and (suprise!) more cost efficient. I do not fully agree that #Ericsson and Co are frightened. After all its all about TCO you are selling to Telcos. Lose on Hardware revenues - gain on software. Lose on integration - gain on Maintenance... After all, procurement teams are buying close to turnkey solutions. Something smaller vendors struggle. Yes, once RAN modernization is not physical, but "logical" the barriers of entry lower. However, big4 have R&D scale. #NVIDIA may be big enough to shake the Oligopoly, but will they go the expensive road of selling "turnkey". Unlikely, given their margin targets (implicitly through their stock market valuation) The bigger perspective for RAN vendors is that market demand is limited in monetary terms. Its been hovering around 30b for years (colleagues from Dell'Oro Group may correct me), so its a cut-throat game. as we see with #ORAN, big vendors will react (and retake their share) once they see alternative vendors getting the economies of scale to cover R&D costs. As for Telcos - outsourcing all RAN intelligence to vendors makes sense only if the freed-up internal R&D and strategy brainpower works on solving the monetization equation of the "next G" costs. So far, the procurement model converges at "RAN-as-a-Service". Great write up from TelecomTV about how Orange has provided connectivity at the #parisolympics in 2024, including discussion of how Private Networks have played a key role. One really interesting point from Bertrand ROJAT, Chief Technology and Information Officer at Orange Events was a recommendation in the future to use more Wi-Fi and mobile rather than wired networks. He explained that with fixed networks, one of the biggest challenges facing the French telco is the deinstallation of the cables in a way that allows the assets to be re-used and deployed in its day-to-day production network. This is a concept we at Shared Access have been hearing a lot from businesses and landlords about being more flexible for the future to allow for change – a key point in any walk of life.
