Our influencer program's ROI got a hit a few months ago after trying to scale in the wrong direction. We started off really strong with a small and mighty group of influencers. Then we wanted to scale up and chose the wrong direction: We made the wrong assumptions and targeted the wrong influencers who created nice content but weren't driving nearly sales as the core group we started with. We then re-evaluated who our best influencers were and realized they're not just our potential customers but have authority in their little community. This is where we've shifted from targeting a "potential customer with a following" to people who truly influence other people to buy products and saw an immediate uptick in sales and ROI.
