CIE members, Fluctuo, a data specialist company focused on shared-mobility services (bikes, scooters, mopeds, cars) recently published its annual review. Notably, the report highlights a remarkable 54% increase in the usage of dockless bikes across Europe in 2023! 🚴♀️ 📈 Fluctuo's CEO, Julien Chamussy, attributes this growth to cities' preference for shared bicycle schemes, emphasizing their ease of adoption. This preference is due to cities already being used to bicycles and having infrastructure designed for them, such as designated parking zones and bike lanes. A great example to avoid future graveyards of shared bikes! The City of Vannes ended Véloceo and found a buyer in Smovengo, known for operating Vélib service in Paris. What about standardizing bike sharing (bikes, batteries, IT etc) for smooth transitions. Implementing a rule for companies to allocate capital end-of-business to deal with material use like this could also be something. Kiwi's have a stigma around bikes/ebikes, associating them with people in lycra. However, E-bikes are more than just that. German bike share company nextbike nets 25% more rentals in the first half of 2024 compared to H1 last year.  The firm’s 120,000 bikes have been ridden roughly 24 million times already this year. Now in over 300 locations in more than 20 countries, nextbike has been one of the pioneers of the mobility revolution helping establish bike sharing as a core component of public transport worldwide. 🎊🚲 Our León bike share scheme is growing! As of last week, 40 new bicycles across 9 stations are complementing the public bike share scheme Alsa-nextbike León. With this expansion, the scheme consists of 340 bikes in total that can be rented and returned across the whole city. And as if this wasn't enough already, more than 80 brand new e-bikes will be joining the fleet in the coming month. This bike share scheme, implemented and operated on behalf of the public transport provider Alsa, has been providing a sustainable shared mobility option since 2022. With the expansion of the scheme and the addition of electric bicycles, we are sure that we will reach even more people in the future and will make public transport in León even more accessible and flexible. #BikeSharing #PublicTransport #Bikesharevolution #SustainableMobility

𝗢𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗮𝘆, in 1817, the world’s first bicycle, the Laufmaschine (running machine in German), was invented by the German inventor Baron Karl von Drais. The bicycle got its name from the fact that it had no pedals, and one had to run to operate it. Drais managed to successfully complete a 14-kilometer test run, thus proving it to be a more viable option for commuting than a horse. In today’s world, where there is a dire need for sustainable alternatives to save the environment, bicycles have stood the test of time as the most reliable and green source of transportation. Bicycles offer a multitude of benefits, including: ☑ 𝗭𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗘𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 - Bicycles cause no carbon emissions, unlike fuel-powered vehicles, which are one of the key determinants of environmental pollution. ☑ 𝗟𝗼𝘄-𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 - Since very few resources are required for the production and maintenance of a bicycle, it has a negligible effect on the environment. ☑ 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 - Using bicycles on a daily basis could facilitate minimizing traffic congestion, therefore enhancing the surrounding air quality. ☑ 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 - As no fuel is required to operate a bicycle and no regular maintenance is needed, one could save immense money-wise. ☑ 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 - Cycling is a form of physical activity that, when done regularly, can enhance the quality of life, thus reducing the risk of various chronic ailments, which further helps save hugely on healthcare costs.
