𝗢𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗮𝘆, in 1817, the world’s first bicycle, the Laufmaschine (running machine in German), was invented by the German inventor Baron Karl von Drais. The bicycle got its name from the fact that it had no pedals, and one had to run to operate it. Drais managed to successfully complete a 14-kilometer test run, thus proving it to be a more viable option for commuting than a horse. In today’s world, where there is a dire need for sustainable alternatives to save the environment, bicycles have stood the test of time as the most reliable and green source of transportation. Bicycles offer a multitude of benefits, including: ☑ 𝗭𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗘𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 - Bicycles cause no carbon emissions, unlike fuel-powered vehicles, which are one of the key determinants of environmental pollution. ☑ 𝗟𝗼𝘄-𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 - Since very few resources are required for the production and maintenance of a bicycle, it has a negligible effect on the environment. ☑ 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 - Using bicycles on a daily basis could facilitate minimizing traffic congestion, therefore enhancing the surrounding air quality. ☑ 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 - As no fuel is required to operate a bicycle and no regular maintenance is needed, one could save immense money-wise. ☑ 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 - Cycling is a form of physical activity that, when done regularly, can enhance the quality of life, thus reducing the risk of various chronic ailments, which further helps save hugely on healthcare costs. Being carbon-neutral in nature, cost-friendly, and the reason for a healthy lifestyle, cycling is a timeless mode of conveyance. With the constant worsening state of the environment, let’s unite to create a cycling infrastructure and peddle towards a cleaner and greener future. #sustainablecycling #cyclingcommunity #pedalforchange #cycle #bicycle #greentransport #sustainability #greentransportation #environmentallyfriendly #ecofriendly #netzero #zeroemission #gogreen #greentravel #ridegreen

Ampcustech wishes all a Happy World Bicycle Day to all! What actually happens when you cycle more? Changing the way we travel can play a surprisingly big role in helping to protect the environment. Here are five ways that by cycling more you can help save our planet: 1) Reduce Airpollution: A decrease in car travel would mean a potential saving of approximately 2,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalents. A huge win for cleaning up our air. Cycle more! 2) More Green spaces: If more people cycle, we’ll need more traffic-free spaces. And many of these will be green spaces. Areas with trees, plants and wildlife. 3)Reduce Noise Pollution: Cycling helps to reduce the number of motor vehicles using the roads, lowering congestion and the noise that comes from engines. Less noise from vehicles and idle traffic helps local wildlife to stay and thrive. 4)Reduce the need for deforestation: If more people chose to cycle instead of drive, there’d be a bigger case for keeping these green, cycle-friendly spaces alive. Long term, there’d also be less of a need for metal production to help build cars. The metals used in car production often need to be mined from the Earth – a process that often requires deforestation to work. Can you see how it’s all linked? 5)Reduce Global Warming: According to data from Cycling UK, just 6% of urban passenger miles are from cycling. However, it’s estimated that increasing this to 11% by 2030 and 14% by 2050 could cut CO₂ emissions from passenger transport by 7% and 11%, respectively. Cycling has been long-established as part of the solution for a low-carbon, greener future for the planet. Happy cycling!! #Ampcustech #WorldBicycleDay #BikeLife #CyclingCommunity #RideYourBike #BikeToWork #BikeLove #CyclingLife #BicycleDay #BikeAdventure #TwoWheels #CyclingJourney #PedalPower #BikeRide #BikeCulture #BicycleAdventures #BikeSafety #CyclingFun #BikeHealthy #EcoFriendlyTransport #CyclingForHealth

It's World Bike Day today so ON YOUR BIKE! It's a bit off-topic from my usual posts, but having a day that celebrates my favourite activity, cycling, was too good to miss. I think that many people associate ‘biking’ with the ‘MAMILs’ (Middle aged men in Lycra) that they claim clog up the country roads on a Sunday. But, while I have been known to pour myself into occasional Lycra, it is the concept of a universally available transport medium that really appeals to me. Adopted through a UN General Assembly, World Bicycle Day recognizes "the uniqueness, longevity and versatility of the bicycle… a simple, affordable, reliable, clean and environmentally fit sustainable means of transport, fostering environmental stewardship and health." The World Health Organisation goes on to say, “Proponents encourage the use of the bicycle as a means of eradicating poverty; furthering sustainable development; strengthening education, including physical education, for children and young people; promoting health; preventing disease; and facilitating social inclusion and a culture of peace.” This aspiration is sadly a far cry from the online bickering and vitriolic commentary that seems to prevail in the UK between ‘cyclists’ and ‘drivers’. Just the fact that they are labelled creates a division when in fact most of us are both. London and some cities outside the capital have made good headway for active transport and I want to encourage the “build it and they will come” attitude, as for most the only barrier to two wheels is safety. Lycra is optional. Anyway, get on ya' bike. Today, tomorrow or anytime soon. Even when the sun doesn’t shine it's the best way to get around your neighbourhood.
