I generally approach everything with an open mind. Also my nearly eight-year tenure in big tech has helped me overcome the fear of new and emerging technologies. On a deeper level, I strongly believe that technology is a critical component of our human evolution and our ability to envision a better future for ourselves and our planet. 𝑰 𝒑𝒊𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒔 𝒂𝒔 𝒂𝒏 𝑨𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝑾𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒎𝒂𝒛𝒆, with many unopened doors because we are too busy or overloaded. The hardest part about pivoting is admitting that our assumptions up until that point are wrong. The collective experience and expertise of the team can't and shouldn't be easily dismissed. The risk of incorrect assumptions is greater when starting with a rigid hypothesis about what our users need or what market trends will dominate in the future. Beginning a product or solution with a hypothesis to be validated has long been discussed in science and #statistics. P-hacking, goodness of fit, and gatekeeping are all real strategies that some employ to make the real world match a hypothesis. But these strategies prevent an exploratory mindset, one that values real-world insights over the confirmation of initial guesses. And in the long term, the market will prove them wrong.
