On International Volunteer Managers Day 2024, we’re celebrating the dedication and leadership of our Volunteer Managers across the City of Melville. From Piney Lakes, our Community Centres, Libraries, Wireless Hill Museum, Repair Lab or beyond, these managers empower countless volunteers to make meaningful contributions and help shape our community. This year’s theme, “What’s our future normal?” invites us to reflect on the evolving role of volunteer leaders and consider how today’s decisions and trends will shape the future. Learn more about the day here: volunteermanagersday.org Pictured: Oliver, Judy, Sheridan and Sian - some of our wonderful volunteer managers. #IVMDay24 #MelvilleCity #VolunteeringAustralia #VolunteerManager

Engaging youth in discussions about violence and community safety is crucial for fostering a sense of responsibility and empowerment. Youth legacy takes initiatives as an opportunity to engage our youth so they can discuss the five W’s and scenarios to act out. - programs where youth can take on leadership roles, allowing them to advocate for safety initiatives in their communities. This can foster a sense of ownership and accountability. -Involve youth in service projects that promote safety, such as neighborhood clean-ups or organizing events that bring the community together. —Host forums where youth can voice their concerns about violence and safety in their neighborhoods. Allow them to collaborate with community leaders to brainstorm solutions.

These past two years have been amazing - full of personal and professional growth, amazing partners and new relationships, and working with an all-star team! I can't wait to see what the next two years bring for Creating Community Consulting! #organizationalculture #communitydriven #collaboration #communitygrowth
Part of what makes community-driven work meaningful is the people who we have the privilege to work with. On Friday, June 28th, we celebrated a big milestone – 2 years of collaboration, grassroots community projects, and a growing network of partners across North Dakota and Minnesota. Our friends over at the Frazee-Vergas Forum captured the spirit of the afternoon and our awe in this moment of growth: https://lnkd.in/e9VjvVuV We couldn’t have done this without an amazing team, one that keeps expanding! This month, we welcome four new members to the Creating Community Consulting Family, in a new space in downtown Frazee: Jamie Crabtree, Heather Ware Nelson, Shelly Blauert, and Amy Kilde. They join Karen Dowing and Sophia Strand, alongside Karen Pifher in the amazing community work happening throughout Becker County! Please stop by the office to say hello if you find yourself in the area (especially on a Friday from 2:30-5:30pm) and stay tuned as we share more about our team’s focus areas of work with us this summer and beyond! #CommunityDriven #Grassroots #Collaboration #TeamExpansion #CommunityProjects #Networking #LocalLeadership #CommunityGrowth #NorthDakota #Minnesota #Frazee #BeckerCounty #CommunityConsulting #NewBeginnings #Celebration #CommunityImpact #JoinUs #WelcomeNewMembers #CreatingCommunity #CommunityPartners

Warrior to Love: Show-Up I recently had an inspiring meeting with Councilman Michael Boylan from Jacksonville City Council District 6. It reminded me of the power of community engagement and the importance of taking action to drive change. Years ago, I considered a political career, but my wife and I decided it wasn't the right path for us. Instead, I focused on connecting with our local representatives, believing that true change starts with us. During our conversation, we discussed the book "A Quiet Revolution," which explores the history of Jacksonville's consolidation. Jacksonville Historical Society Both Councilman Boylan and I share a passion for history and a vision for progress in our city. We reflected on the challenges and the numerous failed attempts to unite and advance Jacksonville over the years. One of the biggest questions remains: how do you unite a community divided in the largest city by land mass in the USA? While I am still working on the answer, I know that getting involved and building relationships is a significant step forward. As a private citizen, I've had the privilege of connecting with some of the best professionals and actively participating in our community. My passion lies in solving problems and fostering resilience in relationships. Nothing happens unless you make it happen. It takes everyone to participate in creating and sustaining livable communities. Everything starts with you! Let's take action, show up, and work together to make City of Jacksonville the best place to live on earth. #CommunityEngagement #LocalLeadership #Jacksonville #WarriorToLove #ShowUp #Inspiration #TakeAction

Our team is working on pulling together a high-value (low to no cost) webinar series focusing on "Community Building." When Nate Geinzer left his City Manager role nearly two years ago and determined to focus on consulting, three experiences drove the direction he would take Double Haul Solutions and his interest in community building: 1) Working on community building efforts in the City of Port Huron's Southside/South Park Neighborhood 2) Participating in the 2022 Community Builders Camp hosted by Doug Griffiths, MBA, of 13 Ways Inc. and 3) Teaching a great group of Masters of Public Administration Students at Oakland University. Because Nate is wired to collaborate, we wanted to create an opportunity for our followers and networks to help shape this emerging content. Our goal will be to have sessions build on one another, leaving participants not only inspired, but equipped with actionable strategies. Working titles/topics currently being considered/assembled include: ▶ What is Community Building: A Conversation ▶ Building Community in Less than Civil Conditions ▶ Embracing and Leveraging Diversity to Build Community ▶ Youth Engagement: A Mistake to Overlook ▶ Leveraging Neighborhoods to Build Community ▶ Building Organizational Capacity: Operationalizing Community Building ▶ Sustaining Community Building Through Constructive Relationships: Identifying and Effectively Engaging Collaborators ▶ Sustaining Community Building Through Constructive Relationships: Navigating Elected/Appointed Relations ▶ Missing Pieces: Basic Civics & Community Building Although we are still working on identifying speakers for each session, we can confirm Seth Kaplan will be participating in the "Leveraging Neighborhoods" session. Coming Summer/Fall 2024. #CommunityBuilding #CapacityBuilding #PublicService #CityManager #LocalGovernment Mitchell Foster, ICMA-CM April McGrath Lynch Lori Fisher Teresa Gillotti Peter Chapman Amanda Opalewski, MPA, CQIA Henry Outlaw, MPA Torri Mathes Jenny Vainberg

Earlier this week, Shakespeare Martineau played host to a thought-provoking #roundtable and workshop discussion on the delivery of #affordable and #socialhousing. This timely event, facilitated by myself and TIN Ventures, brought together industry #leaders to explore the multifaceted #challenges facing the #housingsector. Our discourse centred on how the provision and delivery of #affordablehousing can be #reimagined to meet the diverse and evolving needs of #Midlands #residents. Aligning with Shakespeare Martineau’s commitment and support towards the creation of #vibrantplaces, we delved into #strategies that not only address housing requirements, but also contribute to the broader societal goals of #sustainability, #economicdevelopment, and #community #wellbeing. May I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all our attendees for their invaluable contributions, and to Alex Cole for skilfully guiding the conversation. The discussion yielded powerful #insights that promise to shape the future of #socialhousing in the #westmidlands region. In the coming weeks, we'll be distilling these groundbreaking ideas into a comprehensive #report. This document will offer a #roadmap for #innovation in the social housing sector, highlighting key #opportunities and potential #solutions to longstanding #challenges. To secure your copy of this eagerly anticipated report, please reach out to express your interest. I’ll look forward to sharing our findings and continuing this crucial dialogue with stakeholders across the housing industry and beyond.
