#podcast #EdGandia #community #freelancing One of the first podcasts I ever listened to, which gave me SO many tips and lightbulb moments, was Ed Gandia’s High Income Business Writing podcast. He was in my ears every week... and then, after a pitch and a funny Zoom meeting with me and Lynne Testoni in early 2023, he was in Sydney, blowing everyone’s minds on stage at #TheContentByteSummit. It was surreal and amazing and people still say to me, ‘It was Ed’s talk that made me think about ...’ or ‘I changed my business and now I do this, after hearing Ed explain it at the Summit...’ This is no surprise - the freelance world is full of heroes. Ed is one of mine and, I know, one to many of you. He never stops sharing value and helping freelancers in his orbit. And his words, ideas and advice have shaped so many of our businesses. So I feel pretty lucky to be on Ed’s podcast this week. We're both big believers in the power of community and we chat about Rachel's List, the importance of creating a tribe around us, and how even a small one can add up to much needed support, referrals and overflow work. Tune in if you're feeling isolated and crave that in your life / work - we talk about what to consider when building a community, who to approach (often, the people who light you up and perhaps have slightly different skillsets and audiences to you are the ones you'd like to meet up with more often, even informally). There were lots of them!! No, I am not talking about fireworks this weekend (although there was quite a few) I am talking about Women I have interviewed over the last few years talking about their career journeys. New one is out tomorrow. However, I hadn't been interviewed myself until Steve Folland from Being Freelance chose me for his freelance podcast. But the thing is, I have got the bug now and would love to appear on other podcasts, so if you would like a guest that can talk about 🎙 Being a Virtual & Social Media Assistant 🎙 Anything social media related, including batch-creating tips and content-creating tips. 🎙 Starting a successful business at 44 with/from nothing 🎙 Having/running a business with a chronic illness/pain 🎙 Virtual assistance-related content - think productivity and efficiency, software tips etc 🎙 Getting out there and networking when you have anxiety 🎙 Never giving up Or anything else you would like because, to be honest, I am pretty much an open book. I wrote this post just 10 minutes before publishing it! Freelance + LinkedIn → Challenging Task (Here’s my perspective) 1. I got many inbound leads through LinkedIn ↳ Cool, but HOW do I stay consistent? 2. Invited in a small podcast interview(Though I rejected) ↳ Cool, but HOW do I do post be authentic? 3. Your posts are missing some personality ↳ Cool, but HOW do I add my personality into it? It is frustrating when freelancers focus only handling clients w/o thinking of social media presence. Eventually... Not getting continuous projects Instead. 1. Write/record something daily (Just to build muscles) 2. Show to public (Don't worry about perfection) 3. Be authentic (Not everyone is making 6 fig. as you) PS: I scheduled my content for next 8 days.
