Breaking news...🚨 🚨 🚨 This is an exciting time for the #BEAD program. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) just released the framework for #BABA self-certification and compliance for manufacturers and subgrantees. What became clear, is while manufacturers are not required to self-certify and it's a voluntary mechanism to limit fraudulent claims of BABA-compliance, it certainly would provide a lot of visibility for subgrantees if manufacturers choose to participate - streamlining the BABA-compliance process. The NTIA will release this first list in the coming weeks and will house compliant manufacturers and their products on the U.S. Department of Commerce’s website. However, manufacturers are required to provide a BABA certification letter to a subgrantee for equipment that requires domestic production in the BEAD BABA waiver. Subgrantees are required to maintain this certification letter in the event of an audit from their respective state broadband office.

Bringing in some great news! The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is replacing the Unified Registration System (URS) with a new online registration system called the FMCSA Registration System (FRS). FRS aims to simplify the registration process for motor carriers, freight forwarders, brokers, and others in the industry by integrating multiple paper forms into one online system. FMCSA has been attempting to implement a simplified registration system for nearly three decades, with URS experiencing delays and ultimately being suspended indefinitely in 2017 due to IT development challenges. FRS will consolidate forms such as OP-1, OP-1(P), OP-1(FF), OP-1(NNA), MSC-150, MCS-15B, and BOC-3 into a single platform. However, the new system is still under development, and users are advised to continue using regular forms for registration in the meantime.

While working with several eMSPs, always ran into trouble of OCPI not supporting simultaneous charging. Open Charge Alliance needs to release update on OCPI specifically to support simultaneous charging. Both OCPI2.1.1 and OCPI 2.2.1 do not support simultaneous charging as it was written earlier and never amended. OCPI specification says An EVSE object has a list of Connectors which can not be used simultaneously: only one connector per EVSE can be used at the time. Most of the eMSPs are using different connecters as different EVSE which causes confusion for drivers and also to match data with different platforms. Easiest way to solve this is just adding Connector Status field in Connector object and adding connector id in START_SESSION. Really easy update but not sure why OCA has not looked into this with feedback from industry. This update is really needed and we urge Open Charge Alliance to look into this. #Openchargealliance #OCPI #evcharging
