In my final semester as an undergrad at Loyola Marymount University, I got the chance to take the EDLP Student-Athlete Career Development Course with Bobby Thompson and Sherilyn Frazier. Throughout the course, we heard from a multitude of incredible speakers, such as Zack Gonzales, Ashley Henderson, Ty-Ron Douglas, Ph.D, Rheina Ale, Jeron Smith, Samantha Khoury (Stewart), Sebastian J. Sam, Tim Love, J.D., and Simone Jackson. These fantastic speakers discussed their career journeys, emphasizing the value provided to us by our student-athlete experience and how to leverage that experience in our future careers. #IgniteYourVocation
For our final projects, we got the chance to give a brief Career Prospectus Presentation in front of the class on a potential future career path, including the what (the position, and what we want to accomplish with it), the why (why we want to do it) and the how (how to make it happen). Drawing from my experiences across the breadth of my athletic career and inspirations such as Zack Gonzales and Drew Hanlen, my presentation was on a career path I find very interesting: A holistic player skills and life development coach.
This is my first time presenting/discussing the idea in any way. Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated. If you know anybody in this space that you believe would be a strong connection, please feel free to share their name in the comments.
