I co-ran a successful Brownie unit as part of Girlguiding Stockport. I planned and led weekly sessions for a group of around 20 girls aged 7-10 with the aim of providing them with exciting experiences and the opportunity to earn badges, learn new skills and increase their confidence and self esteem. Highlights included organising a sleepover for 12 girls with activities that enabled them all to earn their 'World Cultures' badge and taking a group of the oldest girls on an outdoor adventure…

I acted as a first point of contact for new mums in my local area who were looking for support and to meet new friends with young children. I organised a rota of volunteers who took turns to host a coffee morning at their home and took responsibility for ensuring that venues, contact names, last minute changes and any other important information was communicated to attendees via social media, email and/or phone. I organised a rota of volunteers who took turns to host a coffee morning at their home and took responsibility for ensuring that venues, contact names, last minute changes and any other important information was communicated to attendees via social media, email and/or phone. I also provided support by phone and social media to mums who were struggling or needed someone to talk to, referring them to centralised helplines where appropriate. I had to pass the responsibility on to another member when I returned to full time work.

Each intern researched an area of interest related to their own or others' experiences of widening participation initiatives and presented their thoughts, findings and conclusions to the wider team. Feedback on the interns' inputs included, "thought-provoking", "impactful, in particular how we change our language around eligibility criteria, how students identify as WP themselves and emotion that sit behind this."

  • Pre-GCSE Options Session Project

I was tasked with re-writing the lesson that we deliver to Year 8 and 9 secondary school pupils to help them to prepare to choose their GCSE option subjects. I used a wide range of interactive teaching and learning strategies, up to date labour market information and online learning resources to develop a new session that has now been delivered to over 450 young people in Greater Manchester.
