In this episode of my Asking Strangers for Money podcast, I talk about how to handle 'pushbacks' - not to be confused with objections. To me, an objection happens later in the sales cycle when you and the prospect have a mutual understanding of the problem or opportunity you are going to help them with, they are engaged, and they hit you with: "This is out of my budget," "our procurement department won't sign that," or "your delivery timelines won't work for us" - these are objections. A pushback is much earlier in the sales process because it's when you first approach someone (i.e. cold). Examples are: ➡ "Just send me the information," or "send me an email." ➡ "We don't use services like that." ➡ "This isn't for me/us." ➡ "We already have someone who does that." ➡ "I'm too busy to talk." Pushbacks are phrases that almost automatically react to an unknown conversation or approach from someone you don't know (yet). If you're an entrepreneur or salesperson who is spending time on cold calls or contacting new prospects, you must be ready to respond to pushbacks because you'll frequently encounter them. And I'm not talking about disagreeing, steamrolling, or ignoring what the prospect says - but ensuring that your response goes beyond: "Er, okay, thank you, bye" and hat you either move towards an understanding of whether the prospect and you are a good possible match. The good news? Because you'll hear pushbacks so much, you can PREPARE on how you respond. I share some advice in this episode, but if you'd like to talk specifics for your business, DM me - and let's work together on common pushbacks you hear and how you can respond. #sales #salescoach #salestrainer #askforthesale#handlingpushbacks #prospecting #askingstrangersformoney#salespodcast #salesconversation
