A recent climate #survey by the European Investment Bank (EIB) revealed significant knowledge gaps when it comes to solutions for #climatechange. The study asked people from 35 countries about their general knowledge on climate change. 💡 Here is what the researchers found: Most respondents are well informed about the definition and causes of climate change and are also largely aware of its effects (in both cases more so in the EU than in the USA). However, there were some surprising gaps in knowledge about possible solutions among both EU and US respondents: EU respondents scored only 4.25 out of 10 points on solutions. This is low compared to the results for causes (7.2 points) and consequences (7.6 points). I think that we absolutely need to focus more on solutions – there is a lot technological progress, which should be emphasize much more in our communications. One example: Why shouldn't we also emphasize the ‘positive climate tipping points’? They also exist, but they are much less well known than the negative ones. Maybe that‘s part of the problem - that the talk is no negative (oftentimes depressing and even shaming/blaming) that people stop listening before you get to the good part… 🤔
Thanks for sharing, Juergen von der Lehr. As VC for said solutions, I can confirm that our portfolio companies spend a lot of time educating their potential clients. This is an impediment to swift progress in the necessary green transformation. For all companies wanting to pick up their transition pace, I highly recommand collaborating with experts in the tech field.
It's interesting to see the disparity in knowledge about climate change solutions versus its causes and effects. Focusing on solutions and highlighting positive climate tipping points could be a great way to shift the narrative and encourage more action. What do you think is the most effective way to communicate these solutions to a wider audience?
Would love to hear more about the positive developments and how all of us can support the necessary changes!
I like... and couldn't agree more. Thx, Jürgen.
