Yes, you bring a wealth of experience to the position, but nothing can fully prepare you for what's to come. I've founded and partnered with founders and CEOs from start-ups to Fortune 500. "If I was active on LinkedIn, I'd look desperate." When I first started working with James*, it was a yo-yo game with his success-blockers: - "If I posted about Topic X, nobody will read it." - "If I wrote my opinions, I'll be inviting critics." - "If I shared about my event, I'll look like a bragger." The surprising thing was that on the outside, James appeared to be thriving: ✔ He was invited to be a keynote speaker. ✔ Clients were drawn to his Ivy League background. ✔ His L & D business was going strong for a few years. Despite his early wins, he knows that his impact + business can only grow sustainably if he stopped listening to the #limitingbeliefs in his head. The industry was no longer like 2 - 4 years ago, when there were fewer companies bidding for the same projects. So, we've been working on lots of Reframing: ❌ "What will they think of me?" ✅ "This will really give value to my target audience." A big question I get from business authors is how can I justify spending thousands of dollars working with a hybrid publisher when there is no guarantee of a level of sales? This is a constant issue because those authors would like to make a return on their investment. The answer is the book needs to be a tool to develop your audience and lead those audience members to another revenue stream like consulting, leadership coaching, speaking engagements, training seminars, new clients or other ways you monetize your expertise. You want to work with a high quality hybrid publisher to control your content and create a book that is reflective of your brand. The better the quality, the better the impression, the easier it is for people to take your content seriously and lead them to the larger revenue streams. For many authors, a handful of new clients or other engagements offsets the costs and justifies the expense. The number of authors that I have worked with that have done this successfully is staggering.
