"We’ve seen many course syllabi that ban AI outright, equating its use with plagiarism. AI can do much more than simply giving us students the answer." CARADITE's two undergraduate research assistants—Emma Ren and Barron Brothers—recently attended Duke Learning Innovation & Lifetime Education's second annual Emerging Pedagogies Summit. As the only undergrads at the Summit, they "found the discussions insightful and practical for bridging the gap between traditional educational practices and AI-driven learning tools." In this blog post, Emma and Barron reflect on their participation in a Summit workshop focused on GPTs. They also share related thoughts about how they believe university instructors should make thoughtful use of these technologies in support of student learning. There's a lot of wisdom here: "While AI can handle certain repetitive tasks, personal connections between students and educators remain essential for fostering skills like empathy and collaboration. Essentially, AI is a tool to enhance—not replace—human relationships." It's been a pleasure learning alongside Emma and Barron this semester, I hope you enjoy their blog post: https://lnkd.in/gW6cvZix #HigherEducation #GenerativeAI #AI

In an increasingly AI-powered society, how can parents and educators show students how to use artificial intelligence responsibly? The Day of AI curriculum can help. MIT RAISE developed these activities to teach AI ethics with Massachusetts Institute of Technology-style hands-on learning. This research-proven teaching method is valued by MIT so highly, it's embedded in the Institute’s motto of “mens et manus,” or “mind and hand.” Discover how Day of AI empowers students across the globe to use AI technologies to create a better world — whether that’s taking climate action, or ensuring that AI is designed equitably and responsibly. #DayOfAI #MITRaise #education #teaching #learning #AIEducation #OnlineLearning #OnlineEducation #LifelongLearning #HandsOnLearning #ActiveLearning #ClimateAction #ClimateChange #sustainability #AI #ArtificialIntelligence

University of Nevada’s Student Chatbot Jeremy Tiedt, Assistant Dean at the University of Nevada, Reno College of Business, implemented Wolfie, a custom GPT teaching assistant, in his Summer 2024 Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship course. Wolfie provided 24/7 personalized tutoring to 38 students, 70% of whom initially had limited AI knowledge. The AI assistant was integrated into weekly reflections, a Shark Tank-style pitch using OpenAI's Voice Mode, and business plan reviews. Students reported high engagement (85%) and skill improvement (80%) with AI-assisted assignments. With 88% of students recommending Wolfie for future courses, Tiedt plans to have Bus 101 students create their own AI assistants in Fall 2024, while emphasizing the need to balance technological innovation with valuable human interaction in education. 📘 NEW BOOK REVIEW 📘 Those that have worked with me over the years know that I am a huge tech fan. So when free and easily accessible AI came along, I was an early adopter. I could see its benefits for education straight away. However, unlike previous tech launches, there is no way I could keep up with new AI releases, and very early on, I began to see the challenges with AI in education. Leon Furze‘s “Practical AI Strategies: Engaging with Generative AI in Education” is an invaluable resource that provides educators with the tools and insights needed to navigate this complex terrain. Furze’s book serves as a comprehensive guide for teachers who are beginning to explore the implications of AI in their classrooms. #Education #AI #EdTech #Assessment #Teaching #Learning #Innovation #AIinEducation #GenerativeAI #TechInClassroom #ProfessionalDevelopment Amba Press

For past 12 months I've been writing about and using AI powered applications in the classroom. The latest in my AI Bytes series looks at my day-to-day toolkit of AI driven applications. Whatever the tools there are just a few fundamentals that drive my choices and they are all based in sound classroom pedagogy. Differentiation Personalisation Adaptive teaching Knowledge checking Interleaved learning Retrieval practice All of these have been things I have always strived to do, but I have never been as effective at this as I have since I wove AI into my teaching and planning. AI has the ability to transform education and offer wholly new possibilities, but it also offers us the opportunity to do the things we know have direct and immediate impact, but haven't been able to do as frequently or as effectively as we would like. Pedagogy first is the most powerful hook for teachers and school leaders alike.

I really believe the story around #education is very positive and can't wait to see how #AI continues to enrich and improve educational experiences throughout our lives. Here are three quick questions that have changed how I approach some of this with my own children. 1. #InnovativeEducation: How can the use of everyday items, like marshmallows and water bottles, transform abstract scientific concepts into tangible learning experiences for students? I often find by using these tools myself I get better at experimenting, teaching and connecting with what they are learning together based on how they simplify concepts I struggle to make more accessible. 2. #AIinTeaching: What are the potential benefits and challenges of integrating AI-powered tools, such as Khanmigo for Teachers, into the classroom to enhance teaching and reduce administrative burdens? The benefits are clear, but we need humans in the loop as part of the process. During learning it's an opportunity to connect with peers, teachers, parents and more. Interaction is key not just with the #AI. 3. #FutureOfLearning: With the advent of AI in education, how can we ensure that such technology is used ethically and effectively to support both teachers and students, especially in resource-constrained environments? I think this new generation will be academically more advanced than my generation ever could be, but that we don't want to do that while losing the value of human to human relationships and how those advance our understanding in complimentary ways. Peer led and supported learning is especially important to facilitate and engage with here and #AI can help. So excited to see this from Khan Academy and Microsoft https://lnkd.in/gtgTtMQj

Effective teaching harnesses AI's strengths and human teachers' unique ability to engage and motivate students for deeper learning. AI tools, such as voice-activated assistants and chatbots, enhance classroom dynamics by allowing teachers more time to interact with students while efficiently managing educational content. However, while AI can support teaching efforts, the irreplaceable human touch in understanding and addressing students' emotional needs remains essential for meaningful education. #EdTech #AIinEducation #TeachingWithTech #StudentEngagement #HumanTouch #ClassroomInnovation #FutureOfLearning #AIandTeachers #EduLeadership #TechInClassrooms
