Do you want to become an Age-Friendly Public Health Champion? The first step toward embedding and sustaining new practices is to build the capacity of public health professionals to become leaders in healthy aging through training and professional development. Thus, TFAH created an AFPHS Champion designation to recognize public health professionals who have committed to building their knowledge and expertise and have a desire to lead their departments in becoming age-friendly. Requirements: - Attend at least 6 AFPHS Training sessions (pre-recorded or live) - Attend at least 1 of the sessions on ageism. Oh, and did you know that becoming an AFPHS Champion will also meet the first requirement for health department recognition? Register for the upcoming sessions including: Addressing Ageism in Election Media Coverage, Better Caregiving for All, Building Community Capacity to Meet the Needs of People with Disabilities as They Age, Navigating Ethical Choices in the Care of Older Adults, Beyond Alzheimer's: Identifying and Managing Other Types of Dementia, Show Support for Age-Friendly Care, and more... #TFAH #AFPHS #agefriendly #alzheimersdisease #ADRD #dementia #aging #equity #research #community #peoplewithdisabilities

No one tells you how drastic you grow in understanding when you move from a place of learning things from the board to seeing it in real life. Each of the patient encounters are etched in your mind forever. For me, I would say this is where my learning really began. I don't discount the importance of my foundational years but until you see it on the wards, it remains abstract. In a Clinical setting, you experience it. You have the opportunity to follow up with the entire care of your patient, reason out why they're ill, what could have prevented their illness and how to help them get better. Keep in mind that you might see 10 patients present with the same symptoms but no two patients are ever the same. Knowing this helps you develop a good Physician-Patient relationship and aids in delivering the best care.
