Healthcare professionals, do you remember what you were taught about how to deal with grief over your patients when you were in training? So much of healthcare culture has held up stoicism as strength, and pegged grief as something that just gets in the way of "real work." But what is healthcare, if not human work at the core? Tomorrow, I'll be presenting an online Grand Rounds for Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) on "Supporting Learners Experiencing Grief," together with the incredible Hadley Bloomhardt and Sarah Tremallo, LCSW from Boston Children's Hospital. We are proposing a different way of training and supporting our youngest clinicians in healthcare. We can be human. This can be a path towards higher quality healthcare, and more sustainable journeys as professional caregivers. We can care for ourselves and each other differently. I am full of hope.

When Genuity team works on patient education, we don't just stop at learning; we include hands-on practice and behavioral challenges. Very few people can watch an instructional video or read an article and then know, backward and forward, how to do it. Most of us have to do something several times in order to truly learn. Simply knowing what's right for our health isn't enough. It must become a part of us. So, practice every day for yourself, even if others don't see the need. Regular practice helps health knowledge stick with you. #patienteducation #healtheducation #community #peerlearning
