The news of consumer goods distributor Supreme acquiring white label manufacturer Clearly Drinks for £15Mn from private equity firm NorthEdge this week is a shot in the arm for the Food & Beverage industry, that has seen very little M&A activity recently. AIM-listed Supreme has paid 5x EBITDA for the Sunderland-based business, which is a contract manufacturer for a number of the world’s largest soft drinks companies. Supreme are aiming to leverage their expertise and resources to further develop Clearly Drinks' market position and expand its operations, as part of a broader diversification strategy, according to Sandy Chadha, Supreme's Chief Executive Officer. Supreme also recently established a Sports Nutrition & Wellness division to produce wellness and energy drinks. It shows the FoodBev industry is brimming with new opportunities for patient investors. Although, some might argue that in Clearly Drinks' case taking 135 years to get to a £15Mn valuation is not that attractive. 'Clearly' Supreme are seeing it differently! #MichaelHCowan #GlobalStrategicAdvisor #ConsumerBrands #FoodBev #aahVentures #Advisory #Investment #Growth https://loom.ly/zcB9vl0 Source/credit: William Dodds, Food Manufacture

🤝 The Romanian competition council, Consiliul Concurenţei, has raised several competition concerns regarding the acquisition of Profi Rom Food S.R.L. by Ahold Delhaize, which operates the MEGA IMAGE - Ahold Delhaize Group chain in Romania. Bogdan Chiritoiu, president of Consiliul Concurenței, stated, "It is the largest transaction in the Romanian retail market and a complex analysis is needed. This is why we are consulting with authorities in other member states that have handled similar transactions, but we also want the views of those affected: farmers and processors, competitors, consumer associations." #acquisition #Romania #grocery #retail https://lnkd.in/eaa7NrW2

https://lnkd.in/eErtdKHz Nick Green Ltd are a specialist consultancy to FMCG businesses. Perhaps of little surprise that our attention was caught by the recent article in the Food Manufacture authored by William D. In a marketplace where their has been a shift to buying own branded goods, its good to see a business like Premier Foods being able to continue to grow their branded portfolio of products. This of course is testament to the leadership and strategy set by Alex Whitehouse, CEO who has been able to ensure good performance of their heritage brands in challenging UK consumer market conditions. What is clear to see is with the right growth model, success can be achieved and sustained. Nick Green Ltd spend a lot of time advising and supporting FMCG clients to see 'What is possible' and then helping them to realise it and so I wonder just how many other established brands or even newer players in the segment can learn from this winning strategy in a crowded marketplace. A question of curiosity: Given their strong trading performance how acquisitive will Premier Foods be over the next 12 months and who could there targets be ? #fmcg #fastmovingconsumergoods #mergersandacquisitions #growthstrategy #privateequity

Another week another sad article about more FMCG brands going into administration. One of the biggest challenges has always been that as you continue to grow the pressure on cash flow also grows especially if margin and profit are not growing at the same time. A lot of brands make the mistake of focusing on chasing revenue at the expense of profit. I have always been of the view that unless the extra revenue is adding to margin/profit then it's fruitless to chase that revenue. #fmcg #cpg https://lnkd.in/gxjyzEVA

#learning and #sharing: finally, an article that states it! I have been articulating this since the news came out: Who could possibly buy such a big chunk of the ice cream industry all at once!?! While it may not be the preferred route, I still think that selling off a portfolio of brands might be the most realistic outcome... To be seen. https://lnkd.in/ewFBFsRD #icecream #food #foodandbeverageindustry #foodinnovation #frozenfood #dessert #desserts #treats #sweets #mergersandacquisitions #businessstrategy #businessexpansion #businessinvestment #international #cpgbrands #cpgindustry

Do cheap brands devalue the no & low sector? This one is very close to our heart as we are passionate about the fact no & low is just as premium and holds just as much value as our alcoholic siblings. This piece in The Spirits Business frames up the situation well. With any emerging category, we need to protect the brand equity and value so it can organically grow and allow more brands to flourish in the space. What are your thoughts? We wrote a blog on a similar matter:https://lnkd.in/dpurB3tp - and plenty of other interesting blogs are on our site if you have some spare time! #crossip #crossipdrinks #CGA #insight #deseasonlisation #salesgrowth #ontrade #UKontrade #nonalcoholic #lowandno #nonalc #nonalcaholicdrink #nonalcaholicbeer #nonalcaholicdrinks #founderlead #dryjan #dryjanuary #categorygrowth #investment #angleinvestment #growth #FMGC #NPD #News
