🌍 Enhancing Food Safety in Ethiopian Honey/Beeswax Exports! 🍯🛡️ We're on an exciting journey to boost the food safety standards of selected key honey and beeswax processors/exporters in Ethiopia. 🔍 Our Approach: We conducted a thorough gap assessment of the processors' systems against FSSC 22000 V6, uncovering areas for improvement and developing action plans. Tailored training sessions followed, featuring interactive exercises to help participants understand and apply the standards effectively. The enthusiasm and commitment from participants have been remarkable, as they recognize the benefits of these improvements for their organizations. FSSC 22000 is a globally recognized standard that ensures robust food safety management systems. We're proud of the progress made and confident that these efforts will significantly enhance the safety and quality of Ethiopian honey and beeswax exports, building greater trust among international buyers. Stay tuned for more updates on our journey! 🚀 The GMAP Ethiopia project is funded by Norad - Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation. #UNIDO #FoodSafety #FSSC22000 #HoneyExports #Ethiopia #SustainableDevelopment #QualityAssurance #GlobalStandards #CapacityBuilding #Norad

Nigeria joins the rest of the world in marking the 2024 World Food Safety Day on 7th June, 2024. The event was held at the conference centre of the prestigious Exclusive Serene Hotel and Suites, Abuja, and put together by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare with support from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG) and other supporting groups. It brought together experts from the government ministries and parastatals, captains and experts in the food industry and other stakeholders. The global theme for this year, Food Safety: Prepare for the Unexpected, underlines the importance of being prepared for food safety incidents, no matter how mild or severe they can be. Managing food safety incidents requires dedicated efforts from policymakers, food safety authorities and other stakeholders. This effort commenced in Nigeria with the creation and inauguration of 4 Technical Working Groups (TWGs) convening subject matter experts from government, industry, academia and consumer representatives to gather information and propose solutions to the National Food Safety Management Committee (NFSMC) and FMHSW. The TWGs are: Risk based Regulations, Risk Analysis in Food and Feed Safety. Food and SPS (Sanitary and PhytoSanitary) Inspection. Traceability and Supporting Techniques. Education of all Stakeholders and Research. GS1 Nigeria as part of the participants, leads the Traceability technical workgroup. #food #foodsafety #safety #GS1Standards #gs1nigeria #gs1service

Did you know? 🤔 Through QAMA, a subset of the Uganda Fish Processors & Exporters Association (UFPEA), we prioritize the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system. This proactive approach allows us to assess potential hazards and establish control measures focused on prevention, rather than relying solely on end-product testing. By identifying specific hazards and implementing measures early in the process, QAMA ensures the safety and quality of Uganda’s fish exports from start to finish. 🐟🌍 Our dedication to #HACCP reinforces food safety standards, ensuring Uganda continues to excel as a trusted, compliant, and sustainable exporter of fish and fishery products. This is implemented alongside our various private standards. #FoodSafety #QAMA #UFPEA #HACCP #UgandaFisheries #ExportQuality #Sustainability

I have participated in a seminar focused on food safety governance in Sri Lanka, where I had the opportunity to delve into roles, expectations, and collaboration in this critical area. As an alumnus of IChem, it was nostalgic to reconnect with my alma mater. Reflecting on the discussions, it's evident that our progress in food safety governance has been hindered. • We currently lack a dedicated statutory food safety body and a comprehensive food safety policy. • Furthermore, the transition from a reactive to a proactive, risk-based system has yet to materialize. These gaps highlight the pressing need for concerted efforts and strategic interventions to enhance food safety practices in Sri Lanka. #Needapositivechangeinthesystem #SriLanka #FoodSafety

Drawback||Limitation to Food Safety Sustainability in Africa and The rest of the world 2024|| several challenges, which can hinder the implementation and maintenance of effective food safety practices. Here are seven key reasons for thes drawbacks: 1.Regulatory Gaps✔️ Weak regulatory frameworks and inconsistent enforcement of food safety laws can lead to a lack of standardized practices and oversight, increasing the risk of foodborne illnesses. 2.Limited Resources and Funding: ✔️ Many countries in Africa struggle with limited financial and technical resources, which hampers investment in food safety programs, training, and technology. 3.Education and Training✔️ Insufficient education and training for food handlers, farmers, and processors result in poor understanding and implementation of food safety practices. 4.Inadequate Monitoring and Data Collection✔️ Limited capacity for surveillance, monitoring, and data collection on foodborne illnesses and contaminants makes it difficult to identify and address food safety issues promptly. 5.Cultural Practices and Traditional Methods✔️ Some traditional food handling, preparation, and storage practices may not align with modern food safety standards, leading to increased risk of contamination. 6Climate and Environmental Challenges✔️ Adverse climate conditions, such as droughts and floods, can affect food production and storage, leading to contamination and spoilage issues. Additionally, environmental pollutants can enter the food supply, compromising safety. Addressing these challenges requires a multifaceted approach, including improved infrastructure, strengthened regulatory frameworks, increased investment in food safety, enhanced education and training, better monitoring and data collection, culturally sensitive interventions, and measures to mitigate climate impacts on food safety. #FoodsustainabilityAfrica Elizabeth Mwende Bushnell Mokeira Samuel Muchoki Anita Jerotich Harry Andiga Putra Adhavan M A Jimkelly Murimi

🌍Navigating Food Safety Certification for Sesame Seed Exports to Europe In today’s European market, food safety is crucial. Despite established regulations, the number of reported issues in the RASFF database shows that risks persist. Importers are increasingly favoring producers with Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) recognized certifications. For sesame seed processors and traders, Food Safety System Certification (#FSSC 22000) is essential. This certification, grounded in ISO standards, offers a systematic approach to Food Safety Management. Other relevant certifications include International Featured Standards (#IFS) and British Retail Consortium Global Standards (#BRCGS), which may align with buyer requirements. Key Steps for Certification: 1. Obtain Relevant Certifications: 💡 Consult buyers to identify preferred certifying bodies like SGS or Bureau Veritas. 2. Align on Testing Methods: 💡 Agree on laboratory and analytical methods as needed. 3. Follow Sampling Regulations: 💡 Ensure compliance with European sampling regulations. 4. Consult for Support: 💡 If needed, connect with national Business Support Organisations to find ISO17025-accredited labs. Moreover, sustainability is becoming increasingly important to European buyers. Compliance with codes of conduct and certifications like BCorp can enhance your appeal. By prioritizing food safety and sustainability certifications, your business can meet buyer expectations and strengthen its position in the competitive European market. #FoodSafety #GFSI #FSSC22000 #SesameSeeds #ExportCompliance #SustainableBusiness #IFS #BRCGS #ISOStandards #EuropeanMarket #SupplyChainManagement #FoodQuality #CertificationJourney #Sustainability #MarketAccess #FoodSafetyFirst --- Are you looking to: 1.
