I still remember signing up for my first #ironman race. I started training and after the first run training I was thinking "OK, this was 7k. How the f*!$# am I going to run a marathon after the swim and the bike?!" The same thing happened after the first (10) swims. I couldn't imagine being able to swim almost 4 kilometers. After a few months of proper training I realized that this isn't too far away anymore. Now when I go out on my long training sessions I can run for 30+ kilometers and ride 150+ kilometers without too much thought. How you can use training as a way of boosting your confidence for the race is the topic of today's blog post in our Psychology of endurance sports series.

Training CNF, the most dangerous discipline. Ready for the World Championships, representing team 🇦🇺 CNF, or Constant Weight No Fins is the most dangerous discipline in freediving. It’s the event where you see the most blackouts, red cards and hypoxia. Having no fins, or no assist from the rope, you burn a lot more oxygen on the dive, which makes it more likely you’ll reach critically low oxygen before being able to fully recover. A competition however is the safest place you can dive. A blackout with the right safety isn’t a big concern as generally will have little to impact after a 5-15min recovery. Although the althlete will likely be exhausted for the next day, and shouldn’t dive for at least 24 hours. I’ve never blacked out, and I hope in this comp I dont. Mostly because it would mean I get 0 points, but if I am ever to blackout, this will be the best place to do it. For people competitive with CNF generally dive about 80% of the max depth they can do in other dicplines, although some people are so specialized in this discipline it may be their deepest. In this video I am working on my technique, staying streamlined into arrow position. I am feeling strong. Love you all.

What is Specific Training or Principle Of Specificity? Pure specific training is actually competing in the event or playing the actual sport. However as trainers we must recognise that just engaging in the sport practice as a means of enhancing the physical capabilities that the athlete needs for the sport is not the optimum training approach. Therefore training specificity can refer to using training methods which imitate the key moments or the physical demands performed in the sport but do not directly replicate the sport itself. This term 'DYNAMIC CORRESPONDENCE' is a term that refers to the ability of the training performed to actually transfer to enhance sport performance. The trainer must be aware that they will never get the training fully specific to the sport but by basing the training on the sport imposed demands and key movement skills they will help the athlete be in the best physical shape they can be. This will hopefully allow them to best express the technical and practical skills needed for sporting success. #specific #training #sport #science #cricket #ipl #specificity
