STORY TELLING FOR COMMUNICATION I was not keen on today's results until I received a text from one of the parents of these kids announcing great results. One of the most powerful tools we adopted in a previous assignment for communicating policies and illustrating results was story telling. Organization that directly deal with people be it in marketing, advocacy and policy making will register better success in engaging with their different audiences if they incorporate #Stories as part of their strategies. With stories: 1. You get to #connect with your audience on a deeper level. 2. You touch the emotional side of your audience and create lasting #memories 3. You allow visuals and illustrations within the story to demonstrate #impact and give clarity. Lastly, 4. Everyone loves a good story! Your message's #reach is assured when packaged in a good story. https://lnkd.in/dxrX2eG6

Izzy Garbutt gave this 2 minute 18 second speech in the House of Commons. Here's what happened next... 👇 🍿 735k views on her TikTok ♻️ 1.6m views on someone else's TikTok 📈 Went viral on LinkedIn 🤺 Sparked debate between educationalists and political advisors on Twitter ❓ A load of podcast interview offers 🎤 Speaking ops at IWD and the Children's Media Conference 📚 Cited in books and articles (and LI posts) ever since She was just 17 years old 🤯. [How about that for a personal statement?!] What stands out most for me, is that she had clarity on the answer to this question... 𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫? Most people speak… 1️⃣ At their audience (feels like a lecture 🥱), 2️⃣ To their audience (feels like a keynote 🤓), or 3️⃣ For themselves (feels like a sales pitch at best, an ego trip at worst 🙄) Izzy spoke for everyone who felt like they’d been failed by the education system. Advocacy is an important and all too often, forgotten part of thought leadership. When we speak FOR a group of people... We not only elevate the profile of our ideas, We also increase the chances of our message being heard. Why? Because we share things we resonate with. It just takes one talk...🎤 2 years on this speech is still being talked about. I hope that me sharing it today creates even more opportunities for her. Bravo 👏 --- I shared 3 advanced speaking techniques from this speech in my Founder to Thought Leader newsletter yesterday. Subscribe and you'll also get access to my Ultimate Public Speaking Toolkit. The solution isn’t selling harder—it’s advocating. Get side by side with your client. Understand their needs, their dreams, and the real problems they want solved. When you align with them and co-create a solution, it’s no longer a transaction—it’s a partnership. Ditch the old-school tactics. Serve, don’t sell. Advocacy builds trust, creates mutual wins, and fosters lasting success. So many great takeaways from this conversation with Marc Von Musser. Looking forward to sharing the full episode on my YouTube!

Humor can be an art of advocacy - a tool to amplify others, make them shine brighter, and hey, even make them feel like a rock star. Take the case of a post-game interview, where the player is already basking in the glory of a great game. A sprinkle of humor, a dash of light-hearted teasing, and voila, you've got what we call a "positive prank". Humor, when used right, can be a powerful tool of unity and positivity. #PositivePrank #HumorPersonas

How do you tell your business’s story? Video is still considered ‘king’ for businesses building their brand and connecting with their audiences. It is one of the best ways to share short or longer business stories, depending on your goal and target audience. As a journalist, Communications Consultant, and Chief Communications Officer for Child Advocates, a nonprofit organization, I wrote and produced this longer-form video to share with potential sponsors and funders for Child Advocates. 👉My goal was to give them a fuller view of the organization's work and programs that I hope resonated with their "head and their heart" so that they will support Child Advocates. At the heart of many good stories is a message that emotionally connects with your audiences and prompts them to take action. So I share techniques in this story that could help you tell your stories with impact. #storyteller #storytelling #video #impact #brand #brandbuilding #business #audience #connection #targetaudience #journalist #communications #consultant #coach
