Helping polymaths to get heard and understood so that they can manifest their vision.

A song I can't stand This morning I saw a video talking about the lyrics of this song, because I have never liked it and so I wanted to understand more. This feeling of a place that is welcoming at first, but also the only solution, because it's night and it's the only hotel around. Then you get into it, get lured in by illusion and the portrait of friendliness that just serves the purpose of getting you trapped. There's entertainment and fun along the way, yet it all just ends in you being captured. You can never leave. And the song ends in even deeper unconsciousness. "the last thing I remembered...." so what happened afterwards? Did I lose my memory? And it doesn't end on that. There's a lingering at the end. The suffering gets prolonged by a. ghostly guitar solo and prolongs the painful feeling of being trapped with no escape. What is your impression of the song? Now after these explanations I can understand the meaning and the genius of the song capturing a time, a place, a way of living, a mindset, a generation. Even the guitar solo sounds different now, because I don't feel so trapped. It's actually quite brilliant. Now I wonder: what have I been listening to? The song or my own prejudices and ghosts? What does Hotel California mean for you and how do you like the song? #polymath #systemsthinking #songwriting #mindfulness #eagles #hotelcalifornia #personalgrowth Networking Café are uplifting conversations with polymaths. This song has a lot of milage for people who served in the SADF in the 70s and 80s. In SWA (Namibia) and Angola. The Bushman Brigade (31/201) had a close relationship to the song as depicted in an old SABC TV series (propaganda?) related to Honoris Crux medal winners in the SADF while fighting a USA and Russian Proxy war in Angola and South West Africa (Namibia). Have poignant memories related to this genre of music from the 70s and 80s. If you find this haunting, try Cold Fact, Don’t Pay the Ferryman and others by Chris de Burg.

This song has a magic. It doesn't matter how many times I hear it I never get bored.

I personally love this song and chose it as one of my songs on my BBC ‘One on One’ appearance. It has an amazing outro and the decision to perform it in the key of B minor is just inspired. My understanding is that the lyrics reflect what it was like to live in California at the time it was written. Having lived in California briefly, it makes perfect sense.

I’ve never really thought about the lyrics that deeply but now you frame it, it’s all a bit sinister. That said, I love this track, I tend to like distinct voices and a good guitar solo

Dreadful song. Overrated band. Not my cup of tea at all.

I was always a fan of tunes with big intros (other favourites being Alice Cooper's "poison" and U2's "where the streets have no name" and "with or without you"), so I loved this. It's kind of timeless though. The lyrics could easily be about silicon valley today...

The Eagles themselves described the song as being "all about American decadence and burnout, too much money, corruption, drugs and arrogance; too little humility and heart." Also as a ‘socio political statement and as an allegory about hedonism, self-destruction, and greed in the music industry of the late 1970s. But of course, all of those things are hard to put your finger right on. And maybe that is why the song has been interpreted in so many different ways over the years. When art so perfectly reflects the experience of life, it can be about everything and one specific thing at the same time, depending on the consumer of the art. Like a sort of lyrical Rorschach test. The song’s true meaning, like life itself, is elusive. And maybe that is exactly the point! BTW Dr. Barbara Kleeb MD they are one of my favourite bands and I just happened to see them live last Friday night! ❤️

Dr. Barbara Kleeb MD a song is brilliant if it evokes different feelings in different listeners. Such songs last few decades. However that song which plucks the right strings and takes all to a higher perennial truth is supreme, sublime and everlasting.

Eagles lyrics are some of the best I’ve heard. The last thing I remember, pink champagne on ice, we are all just prisoners here of our own device. Which can be said of a lot of addictions. They all start from our own choices.
