It's nearly World Space Week, and although we want to fill people with enthusiasm for space engineering and exploration, it needs to be in a safe, sustainable way. As the space sector grows, so does the problem of space debris, which is why next week, primary and secondary school children will be designing machines to clear up space, inspired and guided by the legend that is our very own Prof Craig Underwood, plus Lucinda King, who's now mission concepts engineer at In-Space Missions Limited. Sound like something your school might want to do? Find out more at https://lnkd.in/gtVPm35J Big Ideas

Following the launch of the West of Scotland Space Cluster, those interested in learning more about the UK's newest regional space cluster, its aims, ambition, strategy and members can visit the brand new website at www.westofscotland.space While it will grow and develop over the months ahead, the launch version is good to go, including a regional directory of companies operating in any part of the space supply chain across the region. While we have started the directory, it's by no means complete and the ask of companies in the region is to add their details to our directory at https://lnkd.in/gpbdJ9wQ It's a straightforward process and the more supply chain information we have, the more useful the website is in promoting the cluster across the UK and internationally. The cluster's website was designed by the space enthusiast and web guru Steven Scott at TwoFifths Design Craig Clark MBE FREng FRSE FIES Andrew Strain John Charlick Alan Thompson Andrew Horner Joaquin Perez-Grande Malcolm Macdonald Colin McInnes Theresa Condor simon foster Heather Anderson Karen Wilson #space #expandingspace #smallsats #glasgow #innovation #clusters #

#EngineeringWeek Results: A Celebration of Innovation! Thank you to everyone who participated in our #EngineeringWeek poll. We received a fantastic response, and the results offer compelling insights into the public's perception of iconic engineering achievements. The poll asked our network to identify the most iconic engineering marvel, and the results are as follows: ➖ 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗜𝗦𝗦): 𝟰𝟳% ➖ 𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗚𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲: 𝟰𝟬% ➖ 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘁 & 𝗘𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗹 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 (𝘁𝗶𝗲): 𝟳% 𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 These findings showcase the diverse range of engineering feats that capture the public's imagination. The International Space Station stands out as a testament to international collaboration and pushing the boundaries of human exploration. The Golden Gate Bridge remains a symbol of human ingenuity and infrastructure development. The Internet and the Eiffel Tower, both receiving equal recognition, underscore the significant impact of both physical and digital infrastructure on our lives. #EngineeringWeek #EngineeringInnovations #DataInsights #BuildingGreatTeamsTogether

🌍 What an incredible milestone! Today, the first wooden satellite, WISA Woodsat, launched into space. This groundbreaking satellite is part of a fascinating initiative to explore the potential of more eco-friendly materials in spacecraft design. With sustainability at the forefront of innovation, this unique project demonstrates a commitment to reducing our environmental impact even in space. WISA Woodsat, developed in Finland, is made from specially coated plywood and is designed to test how the material withstands the harsh conditions of outer space. The satellite is equipped with sensors to monitor its performance, providing valuable insights that could transform the future of satellite manufacturing. The project is not only a technical achievement but also a symbolic step towards integrating sustainability into every aspect of our lives. The entire undertaking serves as an inspiring example of how traditionally high-impact industries can rethink their design principles to align with eco-friendly practices. By pushing the boundaries of what's possible and embracing unconventional materials, we set a precedent for future technological developments that prioritize the planet’s health. Isn't it exciting to think about the possibilities this opens up? As someone deeply invested in recruitment for purpose-led organisations, it's heartening to see such inventive approaches being adopted.
