Self-reported attribution gets a bad rep - but I love it. At CS2 all our "marketing" is done via content we put out on Linkedin, YouTube, our podcast, and doing speaking engagements or events with other brands or partners. No paid search. No paid social. And only a weekly newsletter to subscribers. So for us to "know what is working" our "How did you hear about us" open text field on our contact form is key. It also helps us stage our sales calls nicely knowing it. Here are just the ones who came through our form and mentioned a podcast, LinkedIn or YouTube in the last year. And we even just got 2! today that stated our podcast even though we have been on a new content break for the past 2 months. The data is inconsistent but you can build automation to categorize these or even insert an additional standardized value on your campaign member along with the utms for easy reporting and showing when "direct traffic" is actually sourced from somewhere.
