The ability to bounce back, known as resilience, is crucial for successfully navigating the #FutureOfWork. "Tomorrowmind" (my new favorite read) stands out as a valuable resource that sheds light on this subject, emphasizing that resilience is a skill that can be developed and honed. Key elements in building resilience include: 🧠 Self-efficacy 🧠 Self-compassion 🧠 Cognitive ability 🧠 Optimism 🧠 Emotional regulation Among these, optimism and emotional regulation particularly stand out. Research indicates that with dedicated practice, individuals can enhance these aspects by an impressive 125% within three months. Following the #BrainsOnChange series on FOCUS, let's delve into the next topic, Change FOCUS! If you missed the OP in this series on Individual FOCUS, I've popped the link in the comments below ⬇ 🧠 Our brains are energy conservationists, constantly calculating the effort vs. reward of change (our internal #ChangeROI "system" that I've spoken on in previous posts). Distractions can be seen as wasted energy and take focus swiftly off change. 🔎 This post explores tips on designing for, managing and leading people through change with the brain in mind, specifically around minimising distractions + maximising focus. While change management tends to jump on "things that need to be done, people that need to be engaged and creating a great PX", —even when approached in a human-centric way, it can tend to unintentionally overlook a crucial element: ➡ Ensuring those impacted by change can actually focus on it ⬅ People are going to have other work and environmental distractions, that aren’t going anywhere. So, it makes sense that we need to design for simple, supported, distraction-free change (or at least as much as possible). Before we get to the tips, let's talk COST of unnecessary distraction in change (and I’m not just taking about general workplace distractions and overload, I’m talking about how we design for and implement change). 💸 When highly distracted during change, people might struggle to absorb information, miss key details, and slow down on progress. 💸 Distraction muddies even the clearest of waters, which could lead to mistakes, impacting quality and requiring rework. 💸 Distraction Pushes People Towards "URGH!", and too many not-well-thought-through "bells and whistles" can lead people to feeling overwhelmed, confused, frustrated and disengaged. ⏩ SWIPE through the below to see some brain-friendly tips for distraction-free change. ------- 👋 Keep an eye out for the next post in the #BrainsOnChange FOCUS series, "Leadership FOCUS" - which delves into how leaders can actively manage distraction for their teams, and why it's important. The 5 Dimensions of Life and Leadership As leaders and human beings, we strive for balance, growth, and fulfillment in different areas of our lives. Over time, I’ve identified five critical dimensions that, when properly nurtured, can lead to improved leadership and overall life satisfaction. Here’s how I define each: Financial Wellness: The freedom to manage financial resources without constant worry ensures stability and peace of mind. Spiritual Wellness: Feeling connected to something larger than oneself, grounded in purpose and gratitude. Mental Wellness: Maintaining a growth mindset and resilience to face challenges with clarity and emotional intelligence. Physical Wellness: Taking care of your body to sustain energy and well-being, creating a strong foundation for longevity and leadership stamina. Relationships: Building and nurturing meaningful connections supporting personal growth and leadership effectiveness. My premise is simple: we become better leaders and human beings when we solve these five dimensions. Each dimension is integral to how we show up at work and in life. When we are financially secure, mentally sharp, spiritually grounded, physically healthy, and surrounded by meaningful relationships, we lead with confidence, resilience, and purpose. Which dimensions are most challenging, and how are you working on them?

𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐄𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐔𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐬 In today’s ever-changing landscape, both in business and life, resilience is no longer a “nice-to-have”—it’s essential. But how do we cultivate resilience in a way that’s sustainable and empowering? One of the key drivers of resilience is emotional intelligence (EQ). The ability to understand, manage, and leverage our emotions, as well as those of others, helps us navigate uncertainty with clarity and composure. Here are three ways we can start to build this powerful combination of resilience and EQ: 𝐒𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬: Understanding how we react in stressful situations allows us to pause and make intentional choices, instead of falling into reactive patterns. 𝐀𝐝𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Emotional intelligence enhances our capacity to adapt to change. When we manage our emotions effectively, we are better equipped to embrace challenges and bounce back stronger. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Building meaningful relationships and fostering empathy are cornerstones of resilience. By tuning into others’ emotions, we create a support network that strengthens us through tough times. Resilience isn’t just about enduring difficulties; it’s about thriving through them. And when paired with emotional intelligence, it’s a game-changer in both personal growth and leadership. Let’s continue to build resilience, harness EQ, and unlock our full potential. #Resilience #EmotionalIntelligence #Leadership #PersonalDevelopment #MindsetMatters #transformation
