We want to be regulated, we want to be taxed...fairly. We have great individuals representing the space and the majority of us are in alignment about low dose beverages and their place as another non-alc alternative that should be sold OUTSIDE of the dispensary channel, leaving the high dose beverages where they belong, IN the dispensaries. We'll get there, and we'll get there together. #drinkcannabis #beverageindustry #thc #hemp #hempd9 #cannabisbeverages #thcbeverages #regulation
Vol. 3 of Spill the T (HC): How Can Hemp Beverages be Effectively and Safely Regulated? This past week, I spoke with a few industry leaders to get their opinions on the regulatory future of hemp-derived THC beverages. This is an important topic for all parties involved in the space; we have a product category that is currently seeing a sales explosion, but most states/markets are largely self-regulated by operators. In this piece I cover topics like the upcoming Farm Bill, consumer safety, dosing, the potential of TTB oversight, and more. Thank you to Diana Eberlein, Christopher Lackner, and David Gonzalez for participating! Thirteen companies, including hemp beverage manufacturers, supply chain partners, and alcohol retailers, have formed the Coalition for Adult Beverage Alternatives (CABA) to advocate for safe, legal THC beverages. Launched on October 16, 2024, CABA aims to influence federal legislation with a focus on product safety, transparency, and responsible marketing practices. The coalition, representing the hemp and alcohol industries, seeks to make hemp-derived delta-9 THC beverages accessible through traditional retail channels. CABA emphasizes the importance of clear regulatory pathways, such as age restrictions, third-party testing, and responsible marketing to ensure consumer safety and differentiate low-dose THC drinks from harmful products. The coalition will work with Congress as the 2025 Farm Bill reauthorization approaches. https://lnkd.in/gEtYXTwm

Did you know drinks only made up 1% of total #cannabis sales in Q1? This recent article on Cannabis Business Times shared some fascinating stats from BDSA: 75% of edible consumers say they had gummies in the past six months… While only 8% say they had a beverage. My question is: What about hemp beverages? Would those numbers change? Here’s what we’re seeing with #hemp e-commerce brands and cannabis dispensaries: The most popular edible they’re selling are gummies. However! Drinks are an exciting category and something we have seen more interest in (especially as more people are searching for healthier alternatives to alcohol.) Do you think drinks could ever surpass gummy sales? #cannabisbusiness #hempproducts #infused #cannabisindustry #wellness #cannabiscommunity

The cannabev category can support a lot of diversity in liquid. I get questions like “what do they taste like?” The cannabis ingedient is typically 0.5 mLs in a 355 mL beverage. So essentially, it will taste like the base liquid. Drop that into a cold brew coffee, drop that into water. The taste of the final beverage will differ dramatically. Cannabev is only a category because of regulations. I view these compounds more like ingredients. We don’t call it the caffenie category, do we? If you’re starting a brand, you need to be one of two things to make it worth the effort - 1) the best in the sub-category (category as defined by you) 2) the cheapest So if you’re making a cannabis cocktail, you need to tell me why you’re better than everyone else doing it. Show me a creative new angle, like MAGIC CACTUS has done and you’ll get my love and attention. The 🌵 doesn’t taste like many, and flavor is subjective. It’s a got a margarita vibe. What got me? The combination of low sugar, flavor, THCv and electrolytes. I can drink this anytime and drink 5 of them without a second thought. I’d get bored drinking fruity waters, and too much delta 9 THC can make me either sleepy or an annoying over talker. Another product I’m loving is Creek Water Botanicals. Kris Kooi grows the hemp himself in NorCal, and packs a whopping 65 mgs of functional cannabis minors in a carbonated hop water. If you’ve never handled hops, I can tell you it’s a very close cousin of cannabis. I’ll drink the CBG rich SKU after lunch to lock in to my tasks and meetings, and the hops give me the placebo effect of tricking my brain Im drinking a 🍺. Since it’s a water, I can go workout after I’m done. If you’ve tried either of these bevs, share your feedback below. The founders will be reading and they know I want to help them get it out there. #drinkcannabis
