Thirteen companies, including hemp beverage manufacturers, supply chain partners, and alcohol retailers, have formed the Coalition for Adult Beverage Alternatives (CABA) to advocate for safe, legal THC beverages. Launched on October 16, 2024, CABA aims to influence federal legislation with a focus on product safety, transparency, and responsible marketing practices. The coalition, representing the hemp and alcohol industries, seeks to make hemp-derived delta-9 THC beverages accessible through traditional retail channels. CABA emphasizes the importance of clear regulatory pathways, such as age restrictions, third-party testing, and responsible marketing to ensure consumer safety and differentiate low-dose THC drinks from harmful products. The Minnesota Cannabis Beverage Market has often been referred to as a "taste of the future" by our chair, Diana Eberlein. Imagine a time where we can order a THC beverage at any bar or restaurant, grab a 6-pack of THC beverages while grabbing your High Noon at Total Wine & More, across the United States - alcohol and cannabis beverage co-existing. It's starting to happen in more and more markets, but Minnesota's become the case study for other states can use as a foundation to normalize THC beverages through sensible regulation, allowing safe and high quality products to be more accessible to the consumer. "Cannabis beverage industry leaders say they welcome regulations and taxes that will create markets where consumers can buy safe products and kids can’t purchase them. 'We need the door cracked open for us to prove that we can play by these rules,' said Diana Eberlein, chair of the Cannabis Beverage Association, in an interview at Minneapolis Cider Company’s taproom, which offers a full line of THC beverages under the Trail Magic brand.
