🚀 Portuguese startup connected closes a pre-seed investment round of 2 million euros to revolutionize NB-IoT connectivity from space 🌍 Did you know that 80% of the planet lacks mobile coverage? Porto-based Connected is out to change this. Founded in 2023, its mission is to make NB-IoT connectivity universal, standardized, sustainable and affordable. 💡 The pre-seed investment round, led by Shilling VC, Iberis Capital, FunBox, Amena Ventures, Octopus Ventures and business angel Keith Willey, will allow Connected to accelerate the development of its technology and expand its team. 📈 Why is this important? I love working with start-ups that take me into new worlds. Yesterday I visited Nordiska Hissmässan and who would have known elevators/lifts could be so interesting! We use them every day, all the time and don't think about them until they don't work anymore - and we damn not going more to the gym, having to take the stairs... 😅 Being so lucky that my cousin Styrbjörn Andrén has spent his life in this industry; I got immediate insights and a wealth of understanding of operations, challenges and needs. Just what the start-up needs to understand to resolve exactly what the potential client struggles with. Even if the start-up has a super idea, there is no use to develop it further unless it solves a problem companies are willing to pay for. We (the start-up and I) are very excited about the findings, very excited about the challenges in the elevator industry and very excited about the product of the start-up! From my experience, I’ve seen how trust plays a crucial role when working with local councils. Startups, no matter how brilliant their solutions are, often face challenges in gaining credibility. Councils can be hesitant to work with smaller players because they worry about long-term reliability. On the other hand, big companies, while trusted, sometimes lack the agility or innovative spark to meet the unique challenges councils face today. That’s why I believe partnerships between the two are so powerful. Together, they form a unified front, blending the creativity and fresh ideas of startups with the stability and proven track record of big companies.
