From our January report on transit accessibility: Congestion pricing "is expected to generate $15 billion...so essential to delivering the remaining station accessibility improvements to which the agency has committed. In addition to the critical resources it will provide to the MTA, CBDTP will reduce traffic blocking bus and paratransit customers, and improve air quality for New Yorkers." Essential accessibility, efficiency, and livability measures hinge on CP. https://lnkd.in/eXV35j_a

Public transit systems can create equal opportunities for everyone to travel within their community, but only when they are accessible and reliable. Without it, people who are blind, Deafblind, or have low vision are forced to rely on personal networks for assistance or risk using unsafe services to meet their needs, which may result in reduced independence, limited recreational and employment opportunities, and increased social isolation. People who are blind, Deafblind, or have low vision need safe and accessible transit options. You can help by participating in this transit survey. #AdvocacyMatters #InclusionMatters

For the past two years, I’ve been incredibly proud to be part of the Accelerating Accessibility Coalition—a unique community of real estate, accessibility, and civic leaders united in the mission to significantly increase the supply of homes that are livable and visitable for people of all ages and abilities. Last week, during our Year 2 AGM, we unveiled a very special video project called "A Tale of Two Homes" that I had the honour of working on alongside my partner in crime Linda Weichel. Today, I’m thrilled to share it publicly! This video highlights: ✨ The barriers created by the vast majority of new condos and apartments for people with disabilities and aging Canadians. ✨ The simple, cost-effective design solutions that make homes more habitable and visitable. ✨ The profound impact these changes can have on countless lives. Produced by ULI Toronto and The Daniels Corporation, with videographer Nathan Sizemore and Confound Films, this project was made possible through collaboration with StopGap Foundation and AccessNow, featuring the voices of Luke Anderson, Neisha Mitchell, Kate Chung, Doug Buck, and Jacob Cohen. A special thank you to the National Housing Strategy under the NHS Demonstrations Initiative for funding this important work. https://lnkd.in/g8gNC2cU https://lnkd.in/gp6my367 Let’s continue building a future where accessibility is the standard, not the exception. #AcceleratingAccessibilityCoalition #AAC #Accessibility #AccessibleHousing #TheDanielsCorporation #DanielsLife #NationalHousingStrategy

It is time for London Transport to plan for inclusive public transport. Why provide a bus service with bus stops that are four street blocks apart and then cancel the ones that are in existence anyway? Have the route planners behind their computers tried carrying heavy loads and walking between stops, with one leg tied up or one eye covered, and pushing a pram? Think of the elderly who have reduced mobility who can't walk 4 blocks to the next stop. Why are there no temporary stops provided where necessary? It is time for planning for humans, not for operational convenience. Empathy is key to a truly caring and inclusive society. #LONDONTRANSPORT #GLA #TFL #EQUALITY #ACCESSIBILITY #BUSES #DIVERSITY #INCLUSIVE #LEVELLINGUP

Public transit is vital for thriving communities, but increasing ridership remains challenging. Here are 5 actionable strategies to attract more riders: 1️⃣ Enhance Reliability: Reduce delays and optimize schedules to build trust. 2️⃣ Make It Affordable: Lower fares or offer subsidies to remove cost barriers. 3️⃣ Improve Accessibility: Serve seniors, individuals with disabilities, and underserved areas. 4️⃣ Add Real-Time Updates: Apps with live tracking make transit more convenient. 5️⃣ Market the Benefits: Promote eco-friendliness and cost savings to attract riders. Transit agency leaders must align their services with community needs to succeed. Which strategy do you think has the biggest impact? 👇 #PublicTransit #RidershipGrowth #TransitInnovation #CommunityMobility

🚍 Inclusive Transport: A New Era for Bus Accessibility 🚍 This week, as we reflect on the International Day of People with Disabilities, it’s more important than ever to highlight the significance of accessible transport. Inclusive transport isn’t a new concept, but we’re entering an exciting new phase. With recent bus accessibility legislation and the emergence of bus franchising, the spotlight is firmly on the people who matter most: the bus users. These developments aren’t just policy changes—they’re opportunities to transform how we think about accessible public transport. It’s about creating a bus network that works for everyone: people with disabilities, older adults, parents with young children, and all those who rely on buses every day. Here at Vix Technology we have a responsibility to uphold this and work together with operators and local authorities to help make this a reality. #InclusiveTransport #AccessiblePublicTransport #TransportForAll #IDPD

Many Victorian know about the “Try Before You Ride” program where people can learn and tryout using public transport in a safe static enviornment. This is done through closing a platform at Southern Cross Station and having a Metro Train, a V/Line train, a tram, a bus, a coach and taxies available with both customer service officers, Travellers Aid and transport staff available to answer questions. Through its Open Data Programme, Transport for NSW is modeling a different method for inclusive, accessible, and user-friendly transport in a new trial. A key part of this programme is the Bus Boarding Assist Innovation Challenge, which uses data and technology to address common challenges faced by passengers with disabilities, such as signalling the driver, knowing how to alert the driver about upcoming stops, and requesting assistance with boarding, like a ramp. This is an important step forward for building an inclusive, equitable, and accessible public transportation network. I believe these trials hold the potential to drive broader societal benefits, including increased independence and mobility for people with disabilities, as well as fostering greater social inclusion and cohesion within communities. As the trials progress, ongoing collaboration between transport authorities, technology providers, and advocacy groups will be crucial to refining and scaling these initiatives for broader implementation across the region.
