New opportunities As my official contract responsibilities at AccessNow start to wrap up, I’m deep in reflection of the innovation we were able to achieve in truly engaging and supporting young disabled people in Canada. I will gather my key reflections in a future post but for now I am deeply grateful. I’d love to chat with you and your team about future partnerships and opportunities. Returning to engaging with young people, disabled community and program development reminds me of my first love of community building. As much success as I’ve driven success and change at the corporate/workplace DEI, I miss direct engagement and program development. Let’s connect - how can I help your accessibility, inclusion, diversity and equity work? #dei #accessibility #belonging #opportunuties #OpenToWork

Reflecting on an unforgettable experience as Canada’s delegate at the first-ever G7 Ministers’ Meeting on Inclusion and Disability. 🇨🇦 🌎 Throughout the week, what stood out is the broad spectrum of focus areas among G7 countries—from employment and universal access to travel, independent living, sport, public policy and citizen engagement. Disabled people across the globe still face fundamental barriers to equity and human rights. There is much work ahead to ensure true inclusion for all and while some nations are further along with mature legislation, others are just beginning to make strides. But one thing is clear: disability inclusion is a fundamental issue that every country must recognize as their responsibility to address. I’m proud to represent Canada, a country that I learned really does stand in a leadership role—one that others can learn from in many ways towards advancing disability rights and accessibility. It has been both an honor and a privilege to be part of conversations that will shape the future of disability inclusion on a global scale. Thank you to Minister Khera for inviting me to contribute.

  • Travel is a fundamental right, not a privilege. In her latest piece for Afar, our CEO, Maayan Ziv, dives deep into the barriers Paralympic athletes face when traveling. Access to airports, planes, and international cities should be seamless for everyone, especially for those who represent our countries on the world stage. Read more about the challenges and what we can do to create a more accessible travel industry: https://lnkd.in/e8fty6MR #AccessibilityMatters #Paralympics #TravelForAll #InclusiveTravel #DisabilityAdvocacy #AccessNow

    • Paralympic athletes, Noelle Lambert of the United States (left) and Tomomi Tozawa of Japan (right) compete during round 1 of the women's 100m T63. Text says: For Paralympic athletes, travel can be one of the biggest barriers to competing.
    • A quote from the article by Maayan Ziv: A lot of the work is about shifting the mindset of the travel industry as a whole. The ability to travel freely is fundamental to our participation in society. Ensuring that disabled people can move through airports, board planes, and navigate foreign cities with ease should be a given, not a privilege.

Do you know how elite Paralympians make it to the games? For that matter, anyone with a disability who is headed on a simple flight or vacation? This article dropped into my inbox and I didn't get around to reading it until now and sharing in the spirit of allyship, accessibility and adventure. With the 2024 Paralympic Games wrapping up in Paris, a new documentary titled "Accessibility for All" highlights the challenges elite athletes with disabilities face in simply getting to the games. Covers off some good information about the United States, Canada and the UK. Of special note - 1. New regulations in the U.S. will potentially provide disabled passengers with several new rights. “It’s not a moment too soon to make travel safer and more dignified for people with disabilities,” Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg 2. The recent trip from the UK to France by Isaac Harvey MBE and the team at Wheels and Wheelchairs (not in the article but a huge effort) 3. The Canadian Paralympic Committee / Canadian women’s basketball team and how they've had their wheelchairs damaged in the past. 4. A UK woman named Sophie Morgan takes direct action to hold airlines to account for the shocking mistreatment of disabled flyers Read here: https://lnkd.in/gGMFGZ4Y Great article by Maayan Ziv of AccessNow / Photo by Photo by Real Sports Photos/Shutterstock #Accessibility #Paralympics #Paralypians #TravellerswithDisabilities #DisabilityRights #Travel #TravelPlans #TravelPlanning #Transportation #TravelPlansforBusyPeople #Allyship #TravelMarketing #TravelLeisure

    Founder CEO, AccessNow

August marks 9 years since I launched AccessNow. It’s been an incredible journey, one that has shaped me in ways I never could have anticipated when I first started. Building AccessNow has taught me so much— about accessibility, technology, social good, civic engagement, community development, partnerships, public policy, the importance of representation and storytelling, and more. It’s also taught me about my purpose, resilience, and challenged me to dig deep to define what it truly means to commit to a mission. Through the ups and downs, I’ve learned that the key to long-term impact isn’t about being attached to a particular product or service, but about staying committed to the mission itself, the problem to solve. Over time, our products and offerings have evolved, but the purpose behind it all—creating a more inclusive and accessible world—has remained our guiding star. And as we look ahead, I can confidently say that this year will be our biggest, most radical yet—full of bold steps that will push us even closer to achieving that vision. Over the years, we’ve been able to employ more than two hundred people with disabilities and engage millions around the world. We’ve also partnered with countless companies, organizations and governments, influencing how accessibility is integrated into their business models. Day by day we are building measurable impact that creates tangible change. I’m filled with immense gratitude for everyone who has joined me on this path: the incredible disabled leaders who have paved the way and taught me so much, the allies who have supported our cause, my team who bring their passion to work every day, and the brilliant minds who’ve helped shape the work we do at AccessNow. You have all made this journey so much more than a company; you’ve made it a movement worth dedicating my life to. Thank you to everyone who’s shared their stories, offered guidance, and stood beside me as we continue to break down barriers. Here’s to the next chapter, with new lessons to be learned, new obstacles to overcome, and new possibilities for a more accessible future for all.

Accessibility is not about accommodating special requests as if someone is asking for extra towels. Meaningful accessibility is achieved when thoughtful design and intuitive solutions are sewn into the very fabric of an experience. So thrilled to have written for Afar this month on accessible travel.
