From our January report on transit accessibility: Congestion pricing "is expected to generate $15 billion...so essential to delivering the remaining station accessibility improvements to which the agency has committed. In addition to the critical resources it will provide to the MTA, CBDTP will reduce traffic blocking bus and paratransit customers, and improve air quality for New Yorkers." Essential accessibility, efficiency, and livability measures hinge on CP. https://lnkd.in/eXV35j_a

We're well past the deadline for adopting 2010 ADA standards. If you were already compliant to ADA that's not a big deal, but changes to accessible routes are important to note if you're planning an upgrade to meet the regulation. - 60% of your entrances must be accessibile - each direct access (yes, all of them) from a parking structure must be accessible - specialized entrances must have one accessible entrance for each category (restricted access and inmate / detainee access) - accessible means of egress must comply with International Building Code #FM #facilitymanager #propertymanagement #realestate #cre #accessibility

Nice work Santiago Velasquez The article hits the nail on the head, both identifying the scale of the problems associated with public transport, taxi and ride share, and what can be done to level the playing field. Go you good thing. :) https://lnkd.in/g8zBiw3m

Accessible tourism is critical and so important. People with disability travel for work and leisure, and the fear of the lost or broken wheelchair is a very real anxiety trigger. It's refreshing to see a session on Protecting the Safety, Rights, and Dignity of Air Travelers with Disabilities will be held at the White House. I look forward to discussing this topic at the Destination Australia conference on March 13th, with Ryan Smith and Carly Findlay OAM as we discuss "Broadening the diversity and accessibility of travel and tourism". Improving Accessibility in Public Transit: PATH System’s Proposed 50% Fare Reduction for Riders with Disabilities New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, and the Port Authority have announced a proposal to implement a 50% fare reduction for PATH riders with disabilities—mirroring the fare reduction available to senior riders. If approved, the plan would begin in the summer of 2025 and debut alongside the continued rollout of the TAPP tap-and-go system, aiming to enhance both affordability and ease of access. As Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton expressed, "We are proud to build inclusivity into the PATH system – but we can always do more." This initiative is part of the Port Authority’s broader efforts to improve infrastructure and accessibility across the PATH system, including significant investments in the PATH Improvement Plan and PATH Forward program. 🌟 Filling the Gap: Competencies for Assisting Passengers with Disabilities in Aviation 🌟 There’s a significant gap in the Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) service (occupations) definitions, which fail to explicitly mention the need for competencies in assisting passengers with disabilities. This oversight impacts everything from job descriptions to support (service) standards, training, and conformity assessments based on established standards — not just reactions to complaints and investigations. 🛫✈️ For example, the current SOC service (occupation) definition for 53-2031 Flight Attendants states: "Monitor the safety of the aircraft cabin, provide services, explain safety information, serve food, and respond to emergencies." However, it lacks mention of supporting passengers with disabilities, such as those using wheelchairs or needing assistance with boarding, in-flight, and deplaning. ♿🦽 Similar gaps are found in the SOC services (occupations) definitions: 53-1041 Aircraft Cargo Handling Supervisors 📦 53-1044 First-Line Supervisors of Passenger Attendants 👨✈️👩✈️ … 🔹 Why This Matters: 1. Job Descriptions: Lacking clarity, critical tasks are often missed in hiring and training. 2. Support (Service) Standards: Without specific competencies, airlines struggle to provide consistent support (service) for passengers with disabilities. 3. Training & Education: Training should follow support (service) standards and prioritize supporting passengers with disabilities, but this can't happen if support (service) standards and job descriptions don’t reflect it. 📚 4. Conformity Assessment: Consistent support (service) standards and conformity assessment should prevent recurring violations, rather than relying on complaints and penalties. ✅ 🔹 The Path Forward: SOC services (occupations) must include competencies for assisting passengers with disabilities. This creates consistency across job roles, training, and assessments — ensuring accountability and better support for all passengers. 🛡️ Moreover, organizations that develop support (service) standards are vital to creating an inclusive environment, ensuring that industries uphold quality standards and provide equitable services. 🌍♿ To close this gap, we need to develop support (service) standards, training, and conformity assessment to improve support services for passengers with disabilities in aviation. ✈️♿ #SOC2028 #AviationStandards #DisabilitySupport #InclusiveEmployment #ServiceStandards #WheelchairAccess #ConformityAssessment #AMSupportStandards
Finally! Hopefully this forces much needed change so that travelers who use wheelchairs are given the same access, dignity and respect as other travelers. https://lnkd.in/ekw-Y25c
