Want to get further, faster in business and life? Let's learn from a "manel". 👉🏻 Manel: a zero gender diversity, all-men panel On so many levels, the signaling is just wrong. - Success in business and life is only for men because, no, women can't have it all. *** My recent research on Gender Diversity and Innovation Efficiency yielded mixed results. The number of women, like other minority groups, needs to cross a threshold before their voices will be heard. i.e. can't have too few. The bad news is more diversity can also lead to more conflict, so there's a limit before the costs outweigh the benefits. i.e. can't have too many. A perfect double-bind situation with no easy answer. This complex issue requires more studies but at the heart of it all... Representation matters. For instance, did you know that women in high-income countries are 17% less likely to enroll in STEM courses due to the lack of female role models? In countries where everyone has equal access to education, economic and career opportunities remain elusive to women, as some systems feel like "old boys club?" *** So on one hand, as we encourage women to step up, be bold, and achieve success in both business and life, don't forget the subliminal messages we're sending. At the end of the day, role modeling is a powerful vehicle for social change... All the talk about gender diversity and equality is useless... Unless we put a stop to tone-deaf events. P.S. I'm not a feminist, but a firm believer in diversity and equality. The research speaks louder than my anecdotal experience. P.P.S. The event described above is real.

i see it differently, it all boils down the definition of success, does it mean the only measurement for success is a place at the high table Chuen Chuen Yeo 杨荃荃? unfortunately we buy-in into this is ego driven success theory, which is very much a western culture driven myth. everyone has her own happiness and contentment scale, and may not necessary be in comformity to the long held western culture myth. i am always in awe of this profound quote on success vis-a-vis ego between the West and the East. btw this was from the movie 7 years in Tibet.
Looks like they forgot to invite Wonder Woman to the manel.
Achieving the right balance is complex, as too much diversity can lead to conflict, while too little can silence minority voices.
Great insights! 👏 Representation truly matters and sending the right signals is crucial. It’s disappointing to see events that reinforce outdated norms, but conversations like this are a step toward change. Let’s continue pushing for diverse and inclusive environments where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. 💪🌟
We really need to build ways to help ourselves see how much we miss by having one-dimensional conversations with people who look exactly like us.
Gender diversity should be the norm, not the exception. We need to move beyond all-male panels and show that success is for everyone. Chuen Chuen Yeo
Chuen Chuen, representation does truly matter. Have you seen any effective solutions for balancing diversity without increasing conflict?
