I have the honour of attending the Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) training organised by EMDR Singapore. I have learned lots, and I am sure there is much more for me to learn. One of the many things I've learnt is this - what is an unprocessed experience/memory? According to EMDR, an unprocessed memory is one where a part of us is stuck in the past, information being frozen in time, and stored in its original disturbing state. We form conclusions about ourselves/the world from those negative experiences, and they form a blueprint for our present sense of self. #emdr #SGTherapist #studentforlife #trauma #counselling #therapy #ptsd

For whatever reasons, some therapists think it's best to keep their clients for the long run —something like a 30-session minimum! Are you kidding me What's the priority here? With EMDR, the priority is the client healing. With EMDR, you don't keep your clients long. In just a few sessions they experience major transformation and can go on with their lives. It's fast, effective, permanent and holistic. And you know what else? When you heal people fast like that, you never have to worry about keeping your caseload full. As an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) therapist with 12+ years EMDR experience and an EMDRIA consultant in training, I’ve spent a lot of time talking to clients and clinicians alike about EMDR. I find that there can be a lot of very valid concerns that clinicians newly certified in EMDR have about introducing it to clients. Some of these include concerns about: -damaging the therapeutic relationship -wondering if the client unfamiliar with the method will find it strange -that EMDR won’t be helpful to the client -that the clinician will make a mistake in the protocol All of these concerns can be addressed, and in fact are the types of things that we talk about in the consultation group I run for those seeking EMDRIA certification.
