Have you tried EMDR therapy and it didn't work for you? Or is it taking longer than you hoped? EMDR has become quite popular, and there is a belief that some people hold that it works very quickly. So when people start therapy and find that the process may be slower for them, it can be frustrating and/or disappointing. Because it is a common occurrence when people start EMDR therapy, I've written a blog explaining some of the reasons why it may seem like 'it is not working' or 'it is slow'. And what to do when this happens. If you are interested in reading the full blog, it can be found on my website. #EMDR #EMDRtherapy

Ruh-minations: Getting Stuck I see a lot of questions on EMDR groups about what to do when clients get stuck. Then I see a lot of creative answers. The EMDR Institute manual, which I teach from for HAP/Trauma Recovery gives these suggestions: 1. Change speed, direction, type of BLS. 2. Interweaves 3. Feeder memories 4. Blocking beliefs 5. Ecological soundness (but this is really rare) The reason I am posting this is because all the other creative solutions should happen AFTER we try these. I think sometimes we get nervous when EMDR therapy doesn’t seem to be “working” and we jump from reprocessing. Sometimes this jumping away from Phase 4 is too soon and unnecessary. The one exception is any concern about dissociation. Then you do want to pause and go back to re-assessment. #EMDRtherapy #EMDRtraining #EMDReducation

Often, our clients find themselves entangled in a web of distress without fully understanding where this comes from. But what we know as therapists is that our clients pain has roots. And in this recognition lies the transformative power of EMDR therapy It's not about enduring or suppressing the discomfort; it's about confronting it with courage and curiosity. It’s about figuring out what are the key experiences and memories that have laid these roots and then processing these so our clients are no longer left with this huge distress and pain. 🙏 DISCLAIMER: As a marketer, I have helped over 500 therapists get trained in EMDR. I've been studying and writing about EMDR since 2018 and these are some of my own personal takeaways, perspectives, and insights. In other words, I've worked with and studied the materials of the great Dr. Andrew Dobo extensively, but I am not an EMDR therapist and these opinions are my own. As an EMDR therapist, you want to understand and embrace the importance of aligning your personal energy with the powerful modality you practice. When you're in tune with the energetic resonance of healing, it amplifies the effectiveness of your therapeutic interventions. Clients can sense this alignment, which deepens their trust and accelerates their healing journey. It's not just about the technique; it's about the energy you bring to each session. #emdr #emdrtherapist #privatepractice

2 hour long sessions are a great way to balance having more time with your clients and also both yours and your client's window of tolerance. For some clients (especially clients who have more dissociation) I have found that 2 hours is the sweet spot for EMDR intensives. #EMDRtherapist #EMDRtherapy #EMDRintensive #EMDRintensivetherapist #privatepractice #acceleratedhealing #progress
