In partnership with the UK Government’s Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, HACT, and Open Data Exchange (ODX), we’re conducting the UK’s most comprehensive survey on social housing providers' views of data standards. As a passionate advocate of the power of data, analytics and insight to have impact and drive positive change for both organisations and customers last years KIM report from the Housing Ombudsman on the issue was very welcome. This report from Service Insights Ltd makes for an interesting read - both the summary and the full report. "The research by Dr. Simon Williams at Service Insights Ltd and the final report shows this appetite but it also shows that organisations are at different places on the journey. Many are data-rich and insight poor; some of the data is isolated in silos.” "Poor data quality was detectable across all seven core housing management functions covered in our study. Across all levels of seniority and all sizes of organisation, there was a concerning consensus that poor quality data was directly leading to poor decision-making and impacting on service outcomes." “While the data challenge for many social housing providers is complex, those that are taking steps to solve the issue are seeing transformational results – improving efficiency and service for tenants, while gaining access to the insights that are so crucial to more effective decision making.” 👇

The #SocialHousing 🏡Sector still has so much work to do to ensure it has the #DataStandards📅 in place to allow providers to fully exploit the automated systems🖥️ they rely upon. However this requires huge amounts of time⌛ and analysis🧐 (and that's before implementation even begins)! Given Providers are more or less doing the same thing rather than re-inventing the wheel 🛞each time, sector-wide #DataStandards sounds like a huge #opportunity🎊 to save vast amounts of #time🕑, #effort🥵 and #money💰 as well as open up a huge opportunity for #interoperability👨👩👧👦. #DataStandards #SocialHousing #BuildingInformationManagement #BIM #ISO19650

I am delighted to promote and support another report on data challenges in social housing. This one is written by Dr Simon Williams of Service Insights Ltd and a friend of Golden Marzipan. Dr Williams suggests five recommendations covering silos, data quality, culture, and systems. The fifth and most important one is “Consider a sector-wide data strategy”.
