More good news coming from European Green Transition where this morning we have agreed an exclusive option agreement to investigate the potential to develop a peatland carbon sink programme, which could in turn generate valuable carbon credits. The deal allows #EGT to perform due diligence at the Altan farm in #Donegal, an area that - you might expect - is very close to my heart. The Altan carbon credit generation project has the potential to be one of Ireland’s first peatland carbon sink projects, and could also be the first step in a business model of both generating and trading carbon credits that could be scaled up in the years and months ahead. The Altan Option agreement offers #EGT the opportunity to generate cash flow in a capital light manner by generating carbon credits. The market for voluntary carbon credits is projected to grow by a factor of 15 or more by 2030 as companies progress towards carbon-neutrality goals, and this agreement offers us an entry point into this high-growth market. Other European countries, particularly Scotland, already have a thriving carbon credit industry, generating credits from peatland sinks. 🗣️“The Scotland Food & Drink Partnership’s Net Zero Commitment welcomes the announcement from the First Minister to support the Acorn carbon capture scheme. Food and drink is one of Scotland’s biggest employer sectors, with more than 130,000 people directly employed and generating £8 billion in exports, but only with government support on major infrastructure investments like Acorn project, can we collectively reach Net Zero by 2045. “The Acorn project will provide a boost to the north east economy, which is home to our world-class seafood processing sector, and a key region for our distillers and primary producers. The Scotland Food & Drink Partnership’s Net Zero Commitment welcomes The Scottish Government’s commitment to work constructively with the local community and businesses to ensure the sustainable growth of the food and drink sectors as part of its Acorn project funding. “Businesses in Scotland’s food and drink industry are reducing their carbon emissions, but energy infrastructure has held us back so far. The acorn project is a positive step in Scotland’s Net Zero journey.” 🌍 - Iain Clunie, Programme Director. https://lnkd.in/ejMEd3p7 #NetZero #CarbonCapture #AcornProject #JustTransition #Sustainability #NetZero2045

TEM welcomes the continued focus on integrity of the Australian carbon market as part of its continual evolution as a key pillar of Australia’s decarbonisation pathway. A recently released study of human-induced regeneration projects is an important contribution to scrutiny of the market, and should be balanced in the context of recent independent reviews and the need to validate these claims with on-the-ground evidence. Read TEM’s response to the study below. At TEM, the carbon projects we undertake and invest in have undergone a rigorous due diligence process to guarantee quality, integrity, and measurable carbon abatement impact. No TEM-owned and/or managed projects were covered in this study as all were registered after 2018 and received their first issuance after June 2023. We also go beyond Australian requirements for all our TEM-sourced, managed or owned HIR projects, including higher benchmarks for rainfall and permanence, and all our projects being registered under 100-year permanence. You can read our response here: https://lnkd.in/gYzveCuX #carbonproject #carboncredits #carbonoffsetting #carbonintegrity #highqualitycarbon #Australiancarbon

🥳 We’re chuffed to share that our Advanced Thermal Conversion (ATC) Gasification project has been awarded £2.3m from Ofwat’s Innovation Fund as part of the Water Breakthrough Challenge. ✨ The aim of this innovative project is to prove that gasification of 100% of sewage sludge destroys contaminants such as microplastics and ‘forever chemicals’, preventing them from re-entering the environment, and creates biochar and syngas, which have multiple, environmentally sustainable uses. By converting sewage sludge at high temperatures, the ATC Gasification process not only aims to reduce harmful pollutants but also supports a circular economy by turning the by-products into valuable resources. These include using biochar as a soil improver and in brick manufacturing, and converting syngas into green electricity and even aviation fuel. We are proud to lead this initiative alongside our partners; Enertecgreen Ltd. (ETG), Queen's University Belfast, Carbon Trust, Thames Water, United Utilities, Anglian Water Services, Scottish Water, Uisce Éireann Irish Water, Northern Ireland Water, Southern Water and Wessex Water. 🥰 If you’d like to know more about this project, visit: https://ow.ly/P1Hg50RIbeo For more information about the Water Breakthrough Challenge, visit: https://ow.ly/QEue50RIbep

We’re thrilled to celebrate the launch of the NABERS Embodied Carbon rating tool, a game-changer for the Australian built environment! 🏢🔥 This innovative tool, developed by NABERS, the National Australian Built Environment Rating System, in partnership with the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA), enables new buildings and partial rebuilds to measure, verify, and compare upfront embodied carbon emissions. For the first time, Australia has a consistent, industry-agreed method to address embodied carbon emissions, helping achieve the 2050 net zero target. As NABERS’ technical partner, thinkstep-anz provided expertise in life cycle assessment and industry consultation. We’re proud to have contributed to this milestone and look forward to its impact on a more sustainable built environment. ▶️ Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gNGWUyti ▶️Find out more about the NABERS Embodied Carbon rating tool: https://lnkd.in/gcW6k-9B #Sustainability #EmbodiedCarbon #NetZero #BuiltEnvironment James Elks Katie Eyles Carlos Flores Ivana Brown Joel Edwards Jeff Vickers Nicole Sullivan Edwin Chu Emily Moore Martina Steiner Tori Wouters

Actionable insights here for local government and publicly owned utilities to prepare for the historic climate funding available. For example identifying projects and publicly owned sites, participating in workforce development and apprenticeship programs and identifying how to maximize the impact on historically marginalized groups through community engagement.
