It was an honour to be part of the Robe River Kuruma Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC Annual General Meeting last week and present some of the outcomes of our work on economic development with Ashley Talbot, Anthony Galante and the Corporation. It was a big day with the community considering and voting on proposals that effected all parts of their lives. The RRKAC team were amazing, making sure that those in the room and those online all had a chance to have their voices heard and considered.

Today is the 38th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution. This commemoration stands as a reminder of the pivotal role that civic education and active citizenship play in safeguarding democracy against tyranny. As we reflect on the events that unfolded at EDSA in 1986, it becomes clear that an informed and engaged citizenry is the bedrock of a resilient democratic society. We in the FEU Public Policy Center (FPPC) recognize the enduring significance of fostering civic education initiatives that empower individuals with the knowledge and skills to actively participate in the democratic process — to ensure that policies and programs are centered on the people and that public officials are held accountable for their actions. Through an unwavering commitment to cultivating a sense of civic responsibility, we can fortify the foundations of democracy, ensuring that the lessons of EDSA continue to inspire and guide us towards a future characterized by collective empowerment and vigilant protection of our democratic principles. #EDSA38 #EDSAPeoplePower

Our policy team advocate for marginalised communities and the voluntary, community, faith, and social enterprise (VCFSE) organisations that support them by: ➡ Breaking down the elements that make up an inclusive economy and explain how VCFSE organisations have an impact on building an economy that works for all ➡ Demystifying policy in a way that enables VCFSE organisations to understand how they can contribute to the development of strategy and policy in Greater Manchester ➡ Enabling the voices of low income and marginalised communities to be heard by policy makers and publish evidence to support these voices ➡ Working to ensure that the role of the VCFSE sector in Greater Manchester is understood, recognised, and valued by policy makers, sharing best practice and impact that is being delivered in the city region Find out how this looks in practice ➡

Today, on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we remember the Lost Children and the Survivors of residential schools. We honour the resilience of Indigenous communities across Canada. ParticipACTION commits to supporting Indigenous communities through measuring and reporting on Indigenous physical activity, supporting Indigenous-led organizations and sharing Indigenous stories and imagery that honour First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities. We will work to advance the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action and continue being open to suggestions from and consultations with Indigenous Peoples on how we can build better relations and continue working towards reconciliation. https://hubs.la/Q02RvwqQ0

What are you waiting for? Join a CPT delegation this year to deep dive into our on-the-ground experiment in nonviolence. A CPT delegation offers an immersive experience in solidarity, inviting individuals to visit a CPT program for 7-14 days. Throughout this commitment, participants engage with and learn from CPT members and local partners, to deepen their understanding of the local context and build networks in the solidarity movement. Through diverse delegation activities, individuals directly interact with grassroots leaders, community members, human rights defenders, and government officials, allowing participants to comprehend the complexities of conflict firsthand. The transformative power of a CPT delegation transcends its duration on the ground. Participants not only engage as first-hand witnesses and advocates but also bridge the gaps of solidarity by sharing their experiences with their home communities, groups, and media upon return. By becoming advocates for positive change, delegates contribute to raising awareness and fostering understanding of the issues faced by the communities they encounter during the delegation. Ultimately, a CPT delegation is a transformative journey where commitment becomes a powerful catalyst for peace, justice, and positive global change. https://lnkd.in/e72sqiHP

Yesterday, we marked National Sorry Day - a day to remember and acknowledge the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families and communities, which we now know as ‘The Stolen Generations’. We recognise the resilience and strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the pain experienced as a consequence of these forced removals. Our vision for reconciliation is for all Australians to work together to address injustice and provide equality of opportunity, and to develop a vocational education and training (VET) sector that embraces the knowledge, leadership and strengths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) 2023-2025 acknowledges what our agency will do to achieve real and sustainable outcomes for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees, as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, employers, training providers and communities. May we all play a part in the healing process for our people and nation. View our Innovate RAP here: https://ow.ly/kFhC50RJqs8 #ASQA #sorryday2024

I'm on a panel at this forum next week, to talk about how we deal with the risk of modern slavery in renewable energy supply chains. As the forum will show, this is not a challenge unique to renewable energy, but our industry needs to be part of a solution to this global problem. Looking forward to the discussion.
Announcement 📢 We are excited to unveil the full program for the inaugural NSW Anti-slavery Forum. On the 21 & 22 May at Norton Rose Fulbright’s Sydney office we will be hosting a thought-provoking gathering of NSW anti-slavery leaders from government, business, academia, civil society, and people with lived experience. The Forum aims to spark collaboration to address modern slavery by fostering a community of purpose. Whether you are from the business sector, government, the community, or have lived experience, we hope this two-day Forum will provide opportunities to learn from and connect with others who are dedicated to combating modern slavery in our state.
