Today in Canada we reflect and mourn the damage caused to First Nation’s communities. Residential schools are a tragic example on how imposing a culture over another can have devastating effects. We need mutual cultural understanding and collaboration. There is still a very long journey to achieve reconciliation with our First Nation’s communities, but reflecting on our past actions is a start.

Honoring Truth and Reconciliation Day Today (September 30th), we observe Truth and Reconciliation Day—a day to reflect on the history and ongoing impacts of the residential school system on Indigenous communities in Canada. SAMH wants to take this time to honour the survivors, their families, and the children who have been impacted. We encourage everyone to engage in meaningful conversations, educate ourselves about Indigenous histories and cultures, and consider how we can support reconciliation efforts in our communities. https://lnkd.in/gHrRzxkc #TruthAndReconciliation #NDTR #EveryChildMatters🧡

Share your views: Covenant to improve the relationship between civil society and government. The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) are working closely with national government and ACEVO (the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations) to develop a Civil Society Covenant. The Covenant is a new agreement to improve the relationship between civil society and government. Your views and thoughts are needed on the draft principles – whether you’ve had a positive or negative experience of engaging with local or national government. This is a great opportunity for Cumbrian voices to influence the national Covenant, which can help to remove some of the barriers that often stall local community action. https://lnkd.in/eUHe-bfa

As we recognize Truth and Reconciliation Day, it is an important time for reflection and understanding. Today, we honor the rich history, resilience, and contributions of Indigenous peoples across Canada, while also acknowledging the injustices and trauma experienced by so many through the residential school system. We are committed to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and culturally aware environment, not just today, but every day. We recognize that reconciliation is an ongoing journey that requires active participation, education, and open dialogue. On this day, I encourage all of us to take the time to listen, learn, and engage with Indigenous voices, and to consider how we can contribute to the work of healing and building stronger, more inclusive communities. Let’s walk this path together. #TruthAndReconciliation #IndigenousPeoples #EveryChildMatters
