BD landscape architects’ Post

Cardinal Place, nestled in the heart of Victoria, opposite Westminster Cathedral, is our latest scheme due for completion in 2024. Cardinal Place was developed in 2006 and marked Landsec’s first step in making Victoria a vibrant place in which to live, work, shop and socialise. In 2022 we were appointed to reimagine the public realm in line with our and Landsec shared social and sustainability values. Through a creative process of exploration, consultation and design, we worked alongside a wonderful team to deliver a brighter, more biophilic, and exciting Cardinal Place where one can find shelter from the hustle and bustle of Victoria Street and connect with nature. The proposals include a revitalised roof terrace with vibrant new seating, street furniture and raised planters Vestre with biodiverse pollinator friendly planting. The terrace will be home to events throughout the year *[including our BD social in July 2025 (watch this space!!)]* and the flexible nature of the seating will allow adaptability in the future. Connecting to the ground floor through the use of colour and the material palette the new gateways into the site welcome visitors into the hub of the site from the peripheries with new signage, lighting and seating opportunities set amongst floral + fragrant planting. It was a key aim identified during the extensive consultation + codesign process to invite people in and mark Cardinal Place as a place to be, rather than a place to walk through. Stay tuned to hear more about the final phase of installation...
