How do we make it sustainable, without sacrificing quality? That was the challenge we asked… Over 5 years ago, we challenged everything we knew about sustainability. At LOGIC we were processing hundreds of tons of timber. The spaces that were created are amazing, but at what cost? We broke it down. We dug into the materials. Asked the hard questions. Our question was simple: ‘Is there a perfect timber?’ -       One that would endure. -       One that wouldn’t damage the environment. -       One that was appropriate for landscapes. We didn’t just meet the standards. Because there’s no simple answer to timber sustainability. Yet, it can be simplified. Here’s the framework we established for choosing a timber species. Six simple questions. Suitability of the Timber: 1. Durability (will it last?) 2. Availability (is there sufficient supply?) 3. Cost (will this fit in with the projects budget?) Then came sustainability… 1. Carbon Miles (how far from forest to project?) 2. Life Cycle (tree age vs project lifetime) 3. Environmental (what is the effect on the forest of removing the trees? Habitat etc.) Did this solve the issue? Not entirely. Do the challenges around deforestation and timber sustainability still need attention? Certainly. However, a commitment to quality and sustainability doesn’t just build today—it serves tomorrow. It’s the small decisions that, overtime, have the biggest impact. LOGIC #design #quality #sustainability

  • The gentle rustling of leaves and the soothing sounds of nature create a tranquil, calming space. This is a space designed with residents at the forefront. 'The brief was to deliver high-quality homes and shared environments with the community at its heart; a place where residents would be proud to call home.' - Housing Design Awards Project: Grace House, Lodge Road Client: Regal London Main Contractor: Regal London Landscape Designer: ME LANDSCAPE STUDIO LIMITED Architect: Ryder Architecture To enhance the calm, natural ambience of the courtyard area at Grace House, the signature Corrio planter style creates a visually striking and functional element within the space. The raised planters not only provide a platform for vibrant greenery but also serve to create outdoor rooms. These split-up spaces serve as informal seating areas, encouraging residents to engage with the natural environment and foster a sense of community. #GraceHouse #CommunityLiving #UrbanDevelopment #OutdoorSpaces #CourtyardDesign #GreenSpaces #Design

  • English Oak (Quercus robur), is one of the most iconic native species in the UK. Once processed, it adds a sense of warmth and natural elegance to landscape designs, drawing from the timeless beauty of its woodgrain textures. Its rich, earthy tones and subtle detailing bring an organic authenticity to refined craftsmanship. The finish offers versatility, complementing both contemporary and traditional designs with an inviting, tactile quality that enriches outdoor spaces. Durability is a defining feature, this species is designed to withstand the elements while retaining its character over time. Grown within the UK, at carefully managed plantation forests, this timber species is a sustainable choice that minimizes transport emissions and ensures sustainable forestry practices. Is English Oak a Suitable Choice for My Landscape Design? https://lnkd.in/eBk9VQcv English Oak is a fantastic material for external seating, we've seen it used many times with exceptional results. There are several common concerns which are discussed in the above blog.

  • Nestled amongst this building’s unique architecture are small pockets of nature... Along with the landscaped walkways and balcony areas, a larger roof terrace space frames the sprawling skyline views. There is a real sense of calm here at The Laundry. Architects Perspective… ‘Our vision for the landscape design was to create relaxing amenity spaces that serve as a serene retreat for residents, seamlessly blending with the architectural elegance of the buildings. By integrating lush greenery, and thoughtfully designed recreational areas, we aim to provide a luxurious backdrop that enhances the building’s shapes and views as well as offers a harmonious living environment.’– Alexia Lechat, Senior Landscape Architect Explore this project further, download the Moodboard - https://lnkd.in/efp-Pd8c Regal London | ANNA FRENCH ASSOCIATES LTD | LOGIC Stapel raised planter edging was used across this whole project to house planting and bench elements.  The bench style Modal in both integrated and free-standing configurations provides residents areas to relax, socialise or work. #Landscapearchitecture #Design #Planters #Seating #Inspiration

The Chimney Walk public realm area is a vibrant space that connects different sections of the Sugar House Island development. The design team at Planit, in collaboration with Logic, created these pedestrian-friendly spaces with a strong commitment to sustainability utilising wall-mounted timber seating elements and large-scale planting sections. Balance is hard to achieve. But at Ashely Road in particular, it was non-negotiable. It had to be beautiful. But it had to be functional. It needed to be bold. But also enduring. Every decision needed balance. I recall working through this with the designers at Allen Pyke Associates... How can we achieve an exceptional space, push this design, and achieve the vision… And be confident in the outcome? In the end, it was worked out bit by bit, in every detail. Just take a look at the pergolas, play elements, large timber features, planter edging and social seating spaces... The results speak for themselves. #design #landscapearchitecture

  • Timber is widely used in landscape architecture. And for good reason... Timber is an excellent material. It's naturally beautiful and unique with each section displaying its own character. It's also highly functional and can complement many design aesthetics and styles. But before specifying a timber specie for a new project, it’s important to know about moisture content. This one consideration can make or break a finished project. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eGA6uQtC

  • We love this project BD landscape architects... some fantastic provisions for the young students, and a great way to get them connected with the outdoors! #design

Great to be able to sit and enjoy the new amenity & external teaching spaces within the London Dock School for the Mulberry Schools Trust, designed and delivered in collaboration with Architype + Kier Group Located within a stone’s throw of the Tower of London the external spaces for learning outside the classroom, play decks and Games Courts have been designed over six different levels with biodiverse planting beds and living walls enriching the environment for the new students. We have been involved on the project since concept design stage in 2017 and taken the project all the way through to completion so it was brilliant to experience the school grounds over October half term with Jack Hobhouse Rob Beswick + Emma Santamaria and team members Guto Jones | Jenna Watkins | Chris Richardson #bdlandscape #learningoutsidetheclassroom #schoolgrounds #publicrealm #landscapedesign #landscapearchitecture

Managing Director at Logic | Celebrating Creativity. Reducing Risk.

I recently joined our team of Project Consultants in #London for a series of site visits. London is a city of endless inspiration. The energy of the city, the dialogue with the project teams, and the exchange of ideas—it all reminded me why I love what we do at LOGIC. Each visit was different. Each design vision unique. It's nice to re-connect with the creativity and expertise that drive projects forward. To align on shared visions. To collaborate and innovate. I’m passionate about pushing boundaries. Asking, “What if?" That one question can do two things: 1. Uncover and help prepare for risks. 2. Open a forum for bold and creative ideas. This trip reinforced something important: Every great space starts with a bold idea—and a commitment to getting it right from the start. #construction #design #landscapearchitects #innovation
