Do I care about Photonics ? Without getting into nerdy detail, the demand generate by new Datacentres, AI, and ever increasing growth of cloud computing, is putting pressure to provide a low latency , high speed network, and optical fiber is the key as we know it today. By harnessing the unique properties of light, photonics enables ultra-fast communication, high-capacity data transfer, and energy-efficient computing. NTT has been working on IOWN ( Innovative Optical and Wireless Network) initiative with Intel and Sony. Learn more about IOWN and the future of photonics at https://www.rd.ntt/e/iown/. #photonics #IOWN #NTT #Intel #Sony #opticalfiber #cloudcomputing

I recently completed a survey paper for my Seminar course, "Current Trends in Wireless Communications" at RWTH Aachen. In this paper, I examine the key technologies that drive 5G systems, focusing on the capabilities and challenges of using sub-6 GHz and mmWave frequencies. The study emphasizes the importance of using both frequency ranges together to meet 5G’s demanding requirements, ensuring optimal network performance through innovations like Massive MIMO and beamforming. Take a look to see how a combination of frequencies could shape the future of wireless communication!

What is the appropriate role of standards in rapidly-evolving fields? I presented and sat on two panels at last week’s TEF event, and a lot of the conversation was on this topic. There's wide agreement that unlocking AI’s full potential demands simultaneous advances across DSP, packaging, optics, and more for connectivity—and that requires unified efforts across the industry. Early efforts at Alphawave Semi and other industry leaders are already pinpointing the most promising technologies to meet the emerging demands. Looking forward to working together to proliferate these technologies for maximum impact. https://lnkd.in/gRrceTTJ NextGenInfra.io

#thz communications beyond #6g WILL work in the near field! Many challenges, but a new degree of freedom added - #thz waveFRONTS! But which wavefront is BEST for near-field THz wireless? Beamforming, beamfocusing, Bessel beams, or Airy beams? Correct answer: ALL of them together! Our latest study (Open access) with Institute for the Wireless Internet of Things (WIoT), Hichem Guerboukha, Ph. D. , Arjun Singh , and Professor Daniel Mittleman (Brown University) gives some more insights. https://lnkd.in/dh94tzSN

5G Without Limits: Japanese Scientists Develop Efficient Wireless-Powered Transceiver Array. Researchers at Tokyo Tech have developed a groundbreaking 256-element wirelessly powered transceiver array for 5G communication, designed to address challenges like low SNR and signal blockage due to physical obstacles. This array utilizes beamforming and advanced power conversion technologies to enhance signal quality and extend network coverage, particularly in non-line-of-sight environments. By achieving significant improvements in power conversion efficiency and SNR, this transceiver array promises to expand 5G accessibility and reliability, thereby fostering more ubiquitous and effective wireless communication - https://lnkd.in/grRJbNhW #5G

Great keynote session yesterday when Christina Gessner, Executive Vice-President at Rohde & Schwarz discussed the 6G-LICRIS and 6G-ADLANTIK projects at the Berlin 6G Conference 2024. We're excited to be part of such important projects defining the future of wireless communications. Wondering what these projects are? 🚀 6G-ADLANTIK is aiming for an ultra-stable tunable THz system for 6G wireless communication and test & measurement based on photonics. 🚀 6G LICRIS is looking into enhancing the coverage and capacity of future 6G networks while minimizing power consumption with Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) #makeideasreal #wirelesscommunication #6G

This paper studies the user association and hybrid beamforming in cell-free #millimeter-#wave (#mmWave) systems without full #channel #state #information (#CSI) acquisition. The authors consider a #cloud #radio #access #network (#C-#RAN), where multiple #remote #radio #heads (#RRHs) are distributed to communicate with users via analog beamforming, and connected to a centralized #baseband #unit (#BBU) through fronthaul links which executes digital beamforming. They aim to jointly design user association, hybrid beamforming, and fronthaul compression with the aid of uplink training. A train-and-design framework is developed to achieve this goal. ----Zihuan Wang, 李明, Rang Liu More details can be found at this link: https://lnkd.in/eEYem3H9
